Abstract This is a Call for Preliminary Proposals (CFPP) and Call for Proposals (CFP) for Amendment to the current IEEE 802.15.4 Specification.

Purpose When issued this is intended to announce the Call for Proposals and to motivate contributions.

Notice This document has been prepared to assist the IEEE P802.15. It is offered as a basis for discussion and is not binding on the contributing individual(s) or organization(s). The material in this document is subject to change in form and content after further study. The contributor(s) reserve(s) the right to add, amend or withdraw material contained herein.

The following describes a Call for Preliminary Proposals (CFPP) for an Amendment to “IEEE 802.15.4- 2006 Standard for Telecommunications and Information Exchange between Systems – LAN, MAN Specific Requirements – Part 15: Wireless Medium Access Control (MAC) and Physical Layer (PHY) Specifications for Low-Rate Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPAN).”

Preliminary Proposals are solicited from members of the Active RFID System Task Group 4f, the 802.15 Working Group, Academia, and Industry for an amendment to the Standard. The scope of these proposals is strictly limited to those described in the Project Authorization Request (PAR) document number 15-08-0763-01-rfid-802-15-4f-par-document-submittal document available at URL: https://mentor.ieee.org/802.15/file/08/15-08-0763-01-rfid-802-15-4f-par-document-submittal.doc , which was approved by the IEEE-SA in December of 2008.

Guidance documents include 15-09-0422-00-004f-Key-Active-RFID-System-Applications-Features- Functions-and-Technical-Guidance-Summary.doc available at URL: https://mentor.ieee.org/802.15/dcn/09/15-09-0422-00-004f-key-active-rfid-system-applications-features- and-technical-guidance-summary.ppt as well as all the Call for Application (CFA) response documents posted on the IEEE 802.15.4f web page at URL: http://www.ieee802.org/15/pub/TG4f.html .

Proposers to this CFPP must respond to each of the PHY parameters listed in the 15-09-0409-05-004f- phy-parameters document available at URL: https://mentor.ieee.org/802.15/dcn/09/15-09-0409-05-004f- phy-parameters.doc .

Please notify the TG4f Chair, Michael McInnis, and Secretary George Cavage, by June 12, 2009, of your intent to respond to this CFPP for time scheduling purposes at the July 2009 Meeting. If a proposer is unable to notify the TG4f Chair and Secretary by June 12, 2009, then their preliminary proposals may be heard during the July 2009 meeting only as time allows.

Proposers are encouraged to post their documents on the IEEE 802.15 document server by July 9, 2009 with the proper template and an IEEE document number. Document Number and Submission Instructions are available at URL: http://grouper.ieee.org/groups/802/15/pub/Download.html .

The next IEEE 802.15 meeting will be held during the week of July 12-17, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco, CA, USA. Meeting registration information is available at http://ieee802.facetoface- events.com/sessions/57/index.php .

No Preliminary Proposals received in e-mail or posted on the 802.15 document server after the July 13, 2009 cut off date will be accepted for presentation at the July 2009 meeting.

Final Proposals will be heard at the IEEE 802.15.4f meeting during September 20-25, 2009 at Hilton Waikoloa Village, Big Island, HI, USA as outlined in the TG4f Call for Final Proposals section below.
