“Operation Life Sign”
Both the Sumpter Township Police and Fire Departments take great pride in delivering prompt public safety services to the community, especially in emergencies. However, our ability to respond quickly is greatly compromised when the entrance and/or structure is absent an identifiable physical address.
There have been several instances where locating persons requiring police assistance was hampered due to lack of proper structure identification. You can avoid putting you or your family at risk by providing us with a highly visible address sign that illuminates at night when contacted by light, commonly referred to as retro-reflective numbering.
To that end, the Fire Department is currently offering “Life Signs” to Sumpter Township residents at a price of $18.60 per address. These signs are made of white retro-reflective numbers on a green background and can be purchased through the Clerk’s office at the township hall.
Senior citizens and others demonstrating financial need can contact the Supervisor’s office and speak with Deputy Supervisor Craig Moody at (734) 461-6201. Mr. Moody will assist in providing these signs free of charge for those meeting the criteria.
If the purchase of a “Life Sign” is not for you, please consider doing the following:
Use numbers that are reflective and readily readable, three inches in height and one-half inches in width. Post them on the face of the house, dwelling, business or structure that faces the roadway.
For the roadway or entrance to the property, i.e. yard light post, entrance gate, driveway marker, mailbox, etc., post the numbers in a fashion that is clearly readable from the adjacent roadway
