The Department of Engineering Technology @ Texas Southern University is hosting its 4th Annual TSU-Unite/Jets Summer PreCollege Engineering program. It is geared towards rising 9th-12th grade students. The Summer Program scheduled for June 14- July 9, 2010. We look forward to working with you and your students. Please pass this information along to students, parent and counselors. Program is offered at no cost. Time 9am-3pm. Meals will be provided also at no cost to students. Attached below is an overview:

2010 TSU-UNITE/JETS SUMMER PRE-COLLEGE ENGINEERING PROGRAM PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Department of Engineering Technologies of Texas Southern University in collaboration with UNITE-JETS will be hosting its Third Annual Summer Pre-College Engineering Program. Summer Program is scheduled for June 14- July 9, 2010, Monday-Thursday 9am-3pm, Friday 9am-1:30pm. The program is designed to provide academic instruction, hands-on-activities and mentorship to rising 9-12th graders of the middle and high schools within Houston Metropolitan Area. It is geared towards ensuring that at least 80% of its participants have the proficiency in Mathematics and Science required for high school completion and college entry. Our secondary goal is to create a long lasting relationship with our participants and partnering schools.

The program incorporates classroom instruction, hands-on activities, field trips and career counseling sessions. Application is FREE. Lunches will be provided at NO COST to participants. The program will maintain a line of communication with participants and their parents and with partnering schools in the post- program period so it can follow-up on participants’ academic progress.

Participants will be welcomed to visit the campus and our department in particular on a at – need basis. It is our hope that this will psychologically prepare and gear them towards seeking enrollment in science and technology programs at our college sometime in the near future. Participants will be informed and invited to take part in future academic events organized by our department and the college at large.

Prospective participants may pick up or request application forms from the General Office of the Department of Engineering Technologies, (Tel. 713-313-7673/ 7119), Texas Southern University. Application forms will soon be available online at www.tsu.edu. Deadline for submission of completed application forms and additional materials is May 30th , 2010. Space is Limited.

We require that applicants submit a Two paragraph essay on one for the following topics; 1. My Career Goals 2. What I stand to benefit from participating in the Pre-College Engineering Program. Students shall also return application form with sample essay and a copy of their most recent Academic transcript and TAKS results. Students must also maintain a GPA of 2.8 or higher.
