Care Packages for Our Troops Please help our Gurney Service Learning Club collect items for our troops. These donated items will be given to the USO of Northern Ohio who will then forward the shipments overseas. The collection boxes are located in the hallway between the main office and the cafeteria. Collection dates are November 4th through November 15th, 2013. Since the start of the war on terror, the USO has sent over 40,000 boxes of food and toiletries to our troops overseas. Our USO representative has informed us that there is currently an emergency need for breakfast and lunch items that soldiers can carry in backpacks and eat while on the move. The troops often carry everything with them, so please collect travel-sized items.

We will gratefully accept the following items as well as monetary donations to help defray the cost of the postage to send the boxes to our dedicated troops serving around the world. (Checks should be made out to the USO of Northern Ohio.) The average cost of postage for care packages is about $15.00 per box.

Reading: We have been reading a novel called Tornado. It is about a dog named Tornado who arrived via a tornado to Pete’s house one summer day. The main skill we have been working on with this book is learning how to use the text to retell each chapter.

Math : We finished and tested our Topic 2 math unit this week. Today, we began new groups for Topic 3, which is adding and subtracting larger numbers. We will discuss your child’s math test during our upcoming conference

Word Study: New words will come home on Monday Our next assessment will be November 8th. Check out this website: http://www.funbrain.com/spell/!!!

I would love to come and see your child play a sport, perform in a play, play at a recital, or any of their other talents. Please just send me a schedule, or give me a heads up when events are coming and I will do my best to get there! It is important to me to see your child using their talents outside of school!!
