Additionally, a state issued CCW permit does not supersede nor over ride this LMA policy. Members wanting to store firearms OR archery equipment during the day ONLY, must contact Gene Adamson (1-1531) or Dave Mulholland (7-3674) for access instructions.

PRACTICAL PISTOL LITE = ALTERNATE TUESDAYS This new pistol event is in addition to the regular Wednesday match and is headed up by Tom Frickell (1- 5493). We follow the regular Wednesday format, with less emphasis on speed to concentrate the less experienced shooters on safety, more safety, accuracy and use of concealment/cover. Once a shooter is comfortable with this method, they will be ready to try out the Wednesday match that practices safety, more safety, along with more emphasis on accuracy, use of concealment/cover, and speed to make it more competitive. This Tuesday match is mainly for the shooter new to practical pistol, those who are not into match competition, or those who cannot make the regular Wednesday match. This event has been a huge success and the participants have progressed at a very fast pace. Schedule: September 5 & 19; October 3, 17 MUZZLE LOADING NEWS AND SCORE SHEET The Muzzle Loaders held their monthly shoot on 12 August 2006. These include the Basic Pistol Class (for the less experienced pistol skills) and Personal Protection in the Home (experienced/advanced pistol skills, qualifying one for the application for a Concealed Carry Permit). Contact Steve 1-5558 or Tom 1-5493. September 15, 16, 18 = Personal Protection In The Home (all seats filled) October 5 & 7 = Basic Pistol (all seats filled) COWBOY ACTION SHOOTING (CAS) This is the fastest growing shooting sport in the US and World. Once you try it you will know why it is so popular. Come out and join us or just watch. A full compliment of firearms used to compete includes 2 single action pistols (32 - 45 cal) with holsters, pre-1900s lever action rifle or clone in pistol caliber (32 - 45 cal), and a shotgun of 12 or 20 gauge side-by-side or 1897 style pump with outside hammer. You do not need all this to participate but it does make it more fun to shot all four guns per each stage. It would be suggested that you also become a SASS member. We start shooting about 5pm and go to about 7pm. Meet at the Pistol House about 4:45pm to help set up targets. We do try to set up according to SASS regulations (Mark Rolfe and I have completed our RO 2 courses and have shot in competition) so you can go to a match around the US and not get DQ'd and understand the terminology. Please bring a friend (let us know ahead of time who it is since a couple of outside shooters have been banned from other ranges due to questionable ethics), you do not have to have the full compliment of guns to be able to shoot with us. If you bring a double action pistol, you will have to shoot it in single action mode. Also, lead bullets only, no jacketed or plated, including rifle bullets (must be of a pistol caliber). Keep your pistol ammo below 900 fps and your rifle below 1200fps. Contact Tom (1-5493 or Mike 1-1696). Regulars are Bill Munny, PeacePipes, Hoosier Desperado, Peno B. Scott, Cactus Gramps, Red Mesa Gambler, Snake Corville and Ranger Red. Sturdy Mike – where are you??? Schedule is: September 14 & 28.

FROM THE SHFC BIG GAME COMMITTEE Brandon Stolba is the 12 year-old son of member Randy Stolba, Brandon was successful on his very first elk hunt last fall. Brandon is also a graduate of our very own CDOW Hunter Safety program, receiving his certification in the fall of 2004. Last year his father took him to the range several times to further develop his firearm handling and marksmanship skills, and also to learn to handle the recoil of a .30-06 hunting rifle. No small task for a fully grown adult, let alone a youth of typical 12 year old dimensions. During these range sessions Brandon 'experienced' the recoil of well over 100 rounds of full-power hunting loads, demonstrating his determination to be as prepared as possible. Brandon bagged a cow elk last October & was awarded an engraved photo plaque by the SHFC Big Game Committee at the August Bull Roast to recognize his accomplishments. His father was unaware of Brandon's eligibilty for an award so Brandon's feat came to the attention of the Big Game Committee only recently. However as part of our charter to encourage greater participation in the shooting and hunting sports we have a special recognition category for youth. What follows is an account of the hunt as re-told by his proud father: Brandon was hunting with me the first two days of season, and he knew the rules. Any cow inside of 200 yards he would get the shot. Between 200 and 250 yards, I would assess the difficulty of the shot and decide who gets to shoot. Over 250 yards and I get the shot. This came from at least 100 shots fired at the practice range determining his max shooting distance. Brandon was hunting with my dad on the third day, Monday October 17th 2005, because my dad had already filled his tag on the first day. They left from camp an hour before light and walked about a mile down a four wheeler trail and sat on the side of a hill overlooking a large clearing surrounded by woods. At about 11 am, a bull, a cow, and a calf came out of the trees and into the clearing. My dad used the range finder and determined they exceeded 250 yards, so Brandon said he was not going to shoot. Evidently my dad was not aware of the 250 yard maximum rule because he told Brandon to shoot at it anyway. There was great rejoicing in the camp that day. I've since told Brandon that I guess it was a good thing he was with his grandfather and not me because I would not have let him shoot. Well done Brandon Stolba!!
