CURRICULUM COMMITTEE MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF FEBRUARY 1, 2011 3:30 P.M., THE LOFT OF THE GUILLOT UNIVERSITY CENTER

The UNA Curriculum Committee met at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2011, in The Loft of the Guillot University Center. The following members were present: Dr. Birdie Bailey, Dr. Jerome Gafford for Dr. Jana Beaver, Dr. Sharon Campbell, Dr. Tom Coates, Dr. Melvin Davis, Dr. Bob Garfrerick, Dr. Vagn Hansen, Dr. Donna Jacobs, Dr. Anna Lott, Dr. Janice Myhan, Dr. Patricia Roden, Dr. Keith Sellers, Dr. John Thornell, Ms. Mandy Wicks, Dr. Laura Williams, and Dr. Sue Wilson. Dr. Tim Carter, Chairperson, presided. Attending as guests were: Chris Maynard, Paul Kittle, Craig Christy, Ryan Zayac, Dwight Bunn, and Jane Wilson.

Approval of the minutes of the meeting of October 12, 2010

Dr. Lott made a motion and Dr. Williams seconded the motion approving the minutes but with the following revision to the discussion of the social science major proposal: “Dr. Maynard was in attendance to report that Dr. Craig Robertson had withdrawn his official objection to the revisions of the social science major.” The motion was approved unanimously.

Consideration of the request for revised UCC Form; Consideration of the request for revised UCC-2 Form (unnecessary if #2 approved above)

Dr. Lott made a motion and Dr. Roden seconded the motion approving a revised UCC Form but with the addition of a field for a “30 character maximum Banner course title.” The motion was approved unanimously. Because the revised UCC Form will consolidate UCC 1-5, consideration of a revised UCC- 2 became unnecessary.

Consideration of the request from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science for revisions to MA 110 prerequisites

Dr. Campbell moved approval and Dr. Lott seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously.

Consideration of the request from the Department of Biology for addition to the computer science requirement for biology majors

Dr. Coates moved approval and Dr. Garfrerick seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously.

Consideration of the request from the Department of Foreign Languages for revisions to Option I of the foreign languages major

Dr. Lott moved approval and Dr. Campbell seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously.

Consideration of the request from the Department of Foreign Languages for the removal of the International Studies minor as fulfillment of the minor requirement for Option II in the foreign languages major

Dr. Campbell moved approval and Dr. Lott seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously. Consideration of the request from the College of Nursing for the addition of a special fee to the online portion of the NU 200 course and designation of said course with an R

Dr. Lott moved approval and Dr. Coates seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously.

Consideration of the request from the College of Nursing for a new course, NU 406WR with associated distance learning online fee of $275

Dr. Lott moved approval and Dr. Campbell seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously.

Consideration of the request from the Department of History and Political Science for the deletion of a second major in Secondary Education requirement for the Social Science major

Dr. Lott moved approval and Dr. Campbell seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously.

Consideration of the request from the Department of Psychology that credit for PY 201 be granted for three semester hours based on a minimum CEEB AP score

Dr. Campbell moved approval and Dr. Williams seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously.

Consideration of the request from the Department of Accounting and Business Law for course title change: AC 366P

Dr. Coates moved approval and Mr. Gafford seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously.

Consideration of the request from the Department of Human Environmental Sciences for revision to Interior Design concentration

Dr. Coates moved approval and Dr. Lott seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously.

Consideration of the request from the Department of Human Environmental Sciences for new courses: HES 310 (with fee), 323, and 345 (with fee)

Dr. Coates moved approval and Dr. Lott seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously.

Consideration of the request from the Department of Human Environmental Sciences for course number/title change: HES 461

Dr. Lott moved approval and Dr. Campbell seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously.

Consideration of the request from the Department of Elementary Education to create a dual certification program in elementary education and collaborative special education K-6; Consideration of the request from the Department of Elementary Education for new courses: EEX 420, 435, 440, 442, 472 Dr. Lott moved approval and Dr. Roden seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously. This item must be submitted to the State Department of Education for approval, then to ACHE as an information item.

Consideration of the request from the Department of HPER for course description change: HPE 496; Consideration of the request from the Department of HPER for inactivation of HPE 495

Dr. Campbell moved approval and Dr. Lott seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously.

Consideration of the request from the Department of HPER for course description/prerequisite changes: HPE 270, 300, 370

Dr. Lott moved approval and Dr. Williams seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously.

Consideration of the request from the Department of HPER for new course with fee: HPE 496L

Dr. Lott moved approval and Dr. Campbell seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously.

Consideration of the request from the College of Nursing and Allied Health for the deletion of the philosophical statements from the mission and vision statement

Dr. Coates moved approval and Dr. Campbell seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously.
