Dear Member of the RCC Faculty and Professional Staff:

The third annual Roxbury Community College Faculty Academy will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, May 20 – May 22. A variety of workshops will focus on professional development: The Power of Teaching and Learning. All professional staff and faculty members, full time and adjunct, are invited to attend. Faculty are compensated for attending at $40/day; those who commit to the entire three-day academy will be paid $150. Full descriptions and registration materials will be available towards the end of this week; turnaround time will then be brief: to attend you will need to register by May 8 th.

Please note the schedule for the three days:

10:00 am to 11:00 am - Helping Students with Disabilities Succeed in College

11:10 am to 12:10 pm - Governance 101

1:00 pm to 2:00 pm - From Real Life & Across the Curriculum: How Might the School- Work-Family Conundrum Serve to Reinforce Learning? - A Discussion on Incorporating a Service Learning Component in Course Delivery (follow up to presentation of Fall 2007, not a repeat) facilitated by administration which can support your involvement - Introduction to Instructional Blogging

Spend 10 minutes to do daily evaluations and 2:00 deliver to library entrance before leaving.

9:30 am to 10:30 am - Personal Enrichment (the difference between trading and investing in stocks) - Writing a Dynamic Syllabus - Service Learning: Mentor to Students based on individual faculty experience

10:45 am to 11:45 am - Preparing Developmental English Students for Intellectual Challenge - How Can Science Nurture Nursing

12:00-12:15 Evaluations and Reflections - due before lunch 12:15 pm Luncheon and Wrap-Up Reception Faculty Lounge (3-424)
