JUNIOR NEWSLETTER APRIL 2013

9 WEEK GRADES

The third 9 weeks ended just prior to spring break and your student should be bringing their report card home with them this Friday, April 5th.

SUMMER SCHOOL

The summer school schedule has been set and will run from June 5th to July 3rd. There will be a morning session from 8:00 – 12:00 and an afternoon session from 12:30 – 4:30. Breakfast is at 7:30 and lunch is at 12:00 and they are free for all students. All classes with the exception of PE are available through EdOptions, our on-line program. PE will be live taught.

Students can enroll in one or both sessions. Registration forms are available in Student Services and need to be returned to Student Services by May 15th.

U.S. SERVICE ACADEMIES

I recently received an email from the office of Senator Dan Coats advertising Academy Days where students and parents can learn about the process of applying for one of the U.S. Service Academies and have a chance to meet with Academy representatives. I’ve attached the flyers advertising 3 meetings in different part of the state. If your student was interested in applying to one of the service academies this would be a good opportunity to learn more and to make some connections. Note that the first meeting is this Saturday.

CREDITS IN ESCROW AT IWU Students who are interested in earning college credits from Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) can start registering for classes April 1st. CIE brochures are available in the guidance office and will need to be signed by a counselor.

 Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0

 Summer, fall and spring classes available

 Call Rhonda at 677-2923 for an appointment

 New CIE students will need to schedule a campus tour

 Returning CIE students are not required to take the tour but still have to meet with an IWU counselor before registering

 Students are allowed to take freshman level courses, 100 – 199, on a space available basis. www.indwes.edu/registrar

 $50 registration fee plus a parking permit fee

 There may be additional fees associated with the class you select. For example, there is a $32 testing fee associated with Psy150 General Psychology

FAFSA INFORMATION Any student that is graduating early, either at the end of this year or mid-term next year should have submitted a FAFSA prior to March 10th. If you submitted a FAFSA you now have until May 15th to make any corrections.

SAT AND ACT INFORMATION

Junior students wish to take the SAT and/or ACT should do so at the end of their junior year. MHS will host the SAT on June 1st. The deadline to sign up is May 2nd. Check your calendar for conflicts and if June 1st does not work there is an SAT test on May 4th. We will not host the May 4th test but other local schools such as Madison Grant or Greentown might. The last ACT test of this school year is June 8th and the deadline is May 3rd. I’ve attached another link for SAT preparation.

ISU SUMMER HONORS PROGRAM I’ve attached some links for an Honors Program at ISU for students interested in Elementary Education. This is a good way to get some experience prior to starting college.
