ALGONQUINS OF ONTARIO EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

The Algonquins of Ontario require the services of a Professional Fish and Wildlife Biologist or individual with equivalent Traditional Ecological Knowledge and experience. The successful candidate will have knowledge of the culture and history of the Algonquin people within Algonquin Traditional Territory. Biological support assignments will consist primarily of documentary research, field surveys and preparation of reports.

Candidates must have a degree or diploma in biology or related field from a recognized university or equivalent Traditional Ecological Knowledge.

It is expected that assignments may include but not be limited to the following:

1. Technical support to the Algonquins of Ontario on specific projects as assigned. 2. Technical support to Algonquins of Ontario for implementation of Species at Risk regulations. 3. Planning and coordinating fish and wildlife strategies. 4. Performing monitoring activities and aiding in the training of Algonquin monitors. 5. Participating on long range planning teams. 6. Technical support to Algonquins of Ontario for Comprehensive Native Values Work Program. 7. Communicating fish and wildlife program information to the Algonquins of Ontario. 8. Assisting in the resolution of fish and wildlife program issues. 9. Assist in development of a Comprehensive Fish Management Strategy. 10. Assist in the development of other Comprehensive Management Strategies as required.

Salary range: $55 K to $65 K per annum depending on qualifications. Location: Algonquin Consultation Office, Pembroke, Ontario

This is a full time position on a contract basis until March 2010 with potential for renewal subject to funding.
