JOB DESCRIPTION

Job title: Part-time Breaktime / Lunchtime Supervisor – two roles available

Responsible to: Head Teacher, Assistant Head Teacher, Form Teachers

Main area of responsibility: To serve and clear lunch and supervise children during the morning break and/or lunch break.

Hours of work: Term time only; two roles available:

1. One vacancy for a supervisor to work from 10.30am until 2pm daily from Monday to Thursday and from 10am until 12pm on Friday; 16 hours per week 2. One vacancy for a supervisor to work from 12 noon until 2pm daily, Monday to Thursday; 8 hours per week.

Location: The Kingston Academy, Richmond Road, Kingston Upon Thames KT2 5PE

Start date: September 2015

Salary scale: Band A FTE £14,961 (£5,685 for 16 hours and £2,843 for 8 hours)

Job Specification / Duties

The job of a lunchtime supervisor is an important one, providing care for the children in school during their lunch break. It is one that calls for sensitivity, patience, a good sense of humour and above all, a genuine ability to relate to children.

The following specifications provide a more detailed job description.

Lunchtime supervisors should:-

 Be available to work the hours specified and agreed with the Head Teacher.

 Serve up lunches to the pupils and undertake clearing up as necessary.

 Undertake a supervisory role whilst the children are taking their morning break and eating their lunches, and for the rest of the midday break either outside or indoors depending on the weather.  Be aware of the school’s policies on behaviour, discipline, equal opportunities and antiracism, and to act in accordance with these policies in a fair and consistent manner, including the use of merit stickers, to promote and reward good behaviour.

 Expect to be treated in a respectful manner by the children and in turn, show respect to the children.

 Report back to the form teacher, Assistant Head teacher or Head Teacher any concerns about the behaviour of individual children that may necessitate further investigation.

 Refer accidents that cause concern to the first aider on duty in the first instance, and then to the form teacher, or Assistant Head Teacher if necessary.

 Be responsible for supervising the children in their classes when it is wet outside. Agree with the class teachers the activities allowed during this time.

 As a member of staff at The Kingston Academy you will be expected to respect the confidentiality of school life. Be aware that events that occur in lunchtimes are not to be discussed outside the staff team.

 Be able to feel free to discuss any problems or concerns you have regarding the job with the Head Teacher.

 Attend any meetings held as these sessions are vital for sharing views and suggestions in order to help the midday session to run as smoothly as possible.
