PTA News: PTA is looking for volunteers to work the track invitational on Saturday, May 6th at Thomas Worthington High School. We have 3 shifts 9-11, 11-1 and 1-3. It's working in the concession stand. This is our biggest fund raiser of the year. We depend on this fund raiser so our kids don't have to go door to door selling cookie dough, or wrapping paper like the other schools do. If you are a track parent and have to be there anyway, please consider helping out. If you are not a track parent, but want to support your school, please consider this opportunity! If you have volunteered this year to work with the PTA, you know what a good time we have. Come see what you’re missing and cheer on your school! Please contact Dreama at [email protected].

Drug Drop-Off Day: Protect your family and the environment by dropping off unwanted, unneeded, or expired prescription and over-the-counter pills to Columbus Public Health at 240 Parsons Ave. on April 29 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Drugs can be abused (accidentally or intentionally) and flushing them poses the threat of chemicals entering our lakes, rivers, streams and drinking water. By bringing your drugs to CPH, law enforcement officers will dispose of your medications in a safe, legal and environmentally conscious way.

The Worthingway Arts Program presents: Getting to Know Cinderella -- another beloved Broadway classic! Rodgers and Hammerstein’s enchanting adaptation of the timeless fairy tale is based on the French version Cendrillon ou la Petite Pantoufle de Verre, and it brings new life to the story of a young woman forced into servitude who dreams of – and achieves – a better life. Cinderella features some of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s most beloved songs, including “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible,” and “Ten Minutes Ago.” Tickets: $8 adults, $5 students, may be purchased online here. Get your tickets soon before they are gone! Performances on May 5th and 6th.
7 th Grade Zoo Trip: On May 11th, 7th grade students will be taking a trip to the zoo! This trip will help conclude our Environmental Science studies. During the year students studied a variety of animals, ecosystems and environmental concepts in science class. This trip will allow us to see these organisms/environments first hand. Permission slips will be sent home April 17th and will need to be turned in by April 28th. The cost is $3.00 and students will need to bring money for lunch or pack their own.
If you are interested in being a chaperone, and have the volunteer badge from the WEC, let your child's science teacher know you want to join!
8 th Grade Field Trip News: On Thursday, May 11, our eighth grade students will have an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime, learning opportunity! We will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio, for a morning tour of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center (NURFC) and participate in planned activities that will enhance our students’ understanding of the pre and post Civil War eras. In the afternoon, students will have the opportunity to explore the historic Little Miami River beginning at Fort Ancient. Interacting with the river ecosystem, students will experience the complex natural environment that surrounds central Ohio, while traveling down the calm, shallow river in extremely stable, Morgan rafts. You will need to sign a permission slip required by the Morgan Raft Company. Your child will NOT be allowed to ride the raft otherwise. Due to the nature of being on the river, students will need to pack sunscreen, a towel, extra shoes that can get wet, and a change of clothes for the ride home. A complete checklist of things to bring will be provided closer to the date of the field trip.
Since this field trip extends beyond the regular school day (7:30 am- approx. 6:00 pm) and involves a personal cost for the students, we wanted to give parents and guardians ample notice. The cost of the trip is $37.00. This cost includes transportation on a comfortable, chartered bus, museum and rafting admissions, and snacks for the ride home. Lunch must be packed and carried onto the bus, OR a sack lunch can be purchased from the school cafeteria for $3 (includes sandwich, fruit, chips, and drink). The $37.00 will be collected from April 21 to May 5 through social studies classes. Make checks payable to: Worthingway Middle School, with NURFC in the memo section. *Please note* We need to ensure that we have the correct number of buses ordered, so we may not be able to accept payments after May 5.
We may need additional chaperones for this trip. If you are interested in volunteering, please email Mrs. Speicher ([email protected]), Mr. Tisdale ([email protected]), or Mr. Vallette ([email protected])
Financial Assistance Limited financial assistance is available for needed scholarships upon written request. Please write or email your child’s social studies teacher: Mr. Speicher ([email protected]), Mr. Gefvert ([email protected]) Mr. Tisdale ([email protected]), or Mr. Vallette ([email protected]). Please let us know how much you are requesting. Any amount that you can pay is greatly appreciated. All scholarship information is kept confidential.
Donations If you would like to donate to the scholarship fund, please add it to your child’s fee, and… thank you in advance for your help.
