1. NASPA IV-East Regional Director (Peggy Burke) a. Welcome b. Board Introductions & “Ask Me About NASPA IV-East” buttons c. Goals – The executive committee came up with four goals over the summer: Communication, Professional Development, Involvement, and Internal Operations. Peggy explained these and asked for questions or clarification. d. Budget – Carrie Don spoke about the budget that ending FY June 30, we had $45,000 and a total revenue balance of $107,000. e. National Conference – Will take place in Baltimore, MD from March 15-19, 2014. We will have a board meeting, regional reception, and business meeting taking place at the conference. f. National NASPA News f.i. New website – dual purpose: external face of NASPA and internal communication. Everyone should update their profile and connect with KCs. Few bugs but working through them and let Peggy know of any concerns. f.ii. BACCHUS – the Board of Directors of BACCHUS Network, a university and community based network focused on comprehensive health and safety issues , will be voting in November to transfer their programs and services to NASPA. This will provide valuable resources to NASPA to expand its health and wellness educational initiatives. f.iii. Guns on Campus – Kevin committed to this program f.iv. NASPA Gives – coming out of foundation to strengthen our role and our foundation. Keith O’Neil and Katie Kramer described it.: f.iv.1. Where does the other money go to? Operational expenses f.iv.2. Why give? We love what we do! f.iv.3. If you want to give? Go to the NASPA website! f.iv.4. Tweet when you give! g. Research Grant Award – Eric Buschlen introduced Dr. Poon who spoke about the research of Midwestern Asian American Student Union. h. Let Peggy know of any retirees in the region

2. Membership Report (Laura Ketchum-Ciftci) – We are in 2nd place in the regions at 2115 membership. Laura had all the State Reps introduce themselves again and talk about goals to increase their membership. Ontario needs a representative.

3. Knowledge Communities (Chris Lewis & Charles Hope-Holmes) – We have 28 KCs, Charles and Chris are new co-chairs, vacancies in Indigenous Peoples and Student Affairs Fundraising. Great WISA conference over the summer. The new website offers good opportunity to get information sent over blogs and you can have blogs sent directly to your email. Sign up for evening dinners on the sheets in the lobby.

4. Getting involved in NASPA (Michael Lango) - I can help get volunteers at conferences, webinars, and workshops. Let me know if you would like to get involved in region. The volunteer site not fully functioning until March, 2014. There is a vacancy for Development within our region.

5. 2013 Regional Conference Report (Joi Smith & John Lehman) a. 455 conference registrants and conference registration was closed b. $23,000 ahead of breaking even c. $17,000 comes from sponsorship d. ½ of participants went to museum last night e. Twitter almost broke after the Award Luncheon keynots f. Peggy thanked them

6. 2014 Regional Conference Report (Kimberlie Goldsberry & Lance Kennedy-Phillips) – Will be held in Columbus, OH on November 2-4, 2014. They will meet with their committee on Tuesday morning. A 3minute video of Columbus was shown to the group.

7. Upcoming Events – Joint Conference 2016 with IV-W in St. Louis. Jim Hoppe of Macalester College will Chair and will begin putting conference committee together soon. Everyone approved the proposal.

8. Announcements – Peggy asked for additional announcements: a. Beth Hellwig – Spoke about Smeester at Sea opportunities and asked that you speak to her for information b. Jim Thorius announced that Maggie Balistreri-Clarke of Edgewood College has been selected as one of NASPA’s Pillars of the Profession. She will be recognized at the national conference in Baltimore in March. c. Ashley Knight – reminded folks that there will be a Community College reception in regional suite d. Abi Kennedy – spoke about the Graduate Assistant Program 9. Peggy adjourned the meeting at 5:48 pm
