An exciting opportunity exist for a passionate and experienced Volunteer Manager to work on the most inspirational event on the Australian sporting calendar, The Special Olympics National Games 2018.

This opportunity will oversee the successful development and implementation of the volunteer programs for the National Games 2018 across all sport and event programs.

Full time Time Commitment: 15 October 2017 – 30 April 2018

Reporting to: Games Director

Games Chaplin / Councillors (Volunteer) Direct reports: Zone Captains (Volunteers)

Locations: GOC Offices: Adelaide Shores Resort, Adelaide, South Australia

Description of the volunteer role:

The Volunteer Manager will be responsible for ensuring adequate volunteers are available to meet the needs of the Games, including recruitment and training.

Key Responsibilities:

 Work with the Games Director and the General Manager, People and Culture to develop a volunteer management plan with associated timelines.  Manage corporate volunteer projects and programs;  Develop and promote a wide range of volunteer opportunities and recruit volunteers with the right combination of experience and qualifications.  Develop and maintain a database for all volunteer functions, skills and contacts.  Assign appropriate roles to volunteers.  Coordinate induction, information and training for all volunteers with the assistance of the Volunteer Team.  Provide continued liaison and communication with volunteers ensuring they have an interesting and rewarding experience.  Distribute uniforms and accreditation to all volunteers.  Create a team culture to ensure smooth operation.  Oversee the Volunteers Centre during the Games (10 – 21 April 2018)  Organise motivation and recognition occasions with a view to maintaining a content team of volunteers.  In conjunction with Special Olympics Australia facilitate Police checks / and working with vulnerable people check.  Review and observe work of volunteers to evaluate performance.  Inform volunteers of policies, procedures, standards and the philosophy of Special Olympics Australia.  Work with volunteers to resolve grievances and promote cooperation and interest.  Prepare activity reports for the information of the Event Manager  Maintain accurate records and provide timely activity reports on volunteer participation to support the overall games implementation and evaluation plan.  Maintain regular communication with other event staff to ensure a consistent approach.

 Attend all Games Organising Committee meetings planning sessions and report as required.  Submit a Post-Games Report by 1 May 2018.

The successful candidate will need:

 At least 5 years’ experience managing and coordinating volunteer programs within a non- for profit environment;  Experience managing, leading and coaching staff and volunteers;  Excellent written and verbal communication skills;  Be passionate about people;  Strong organisational and coordination skills.
