Taxi Service

Information can be found in the Yellow Pages. Taxi services are available for a flat rate fee of $6.00 anywhere within the city limits of Owen Sound. Van taxis are also available for $7.00 or $8.00 respectively.

This bus is available for travel between Kincardine, Tiverton, Port Elgin, Southampton, Allenford, Owen Sound, Chatsworth, Markdale, Flesherton and Durham.

Home & Community Support Services of Grey-Bruce

Volunteers will drive clients to and from medical appointments, shopping, banking etc. This service may also be used for long distance medical appointments. Minimum fee for trips 20km or less $10.00. Long distance trips is 45c/km.

Rates:

The cost per trip (one way) to use the Specialized Transit service is $3.00 per rider cash fare. Specialized Transit Trip Cards are also available for purchase from the Transit Terminal.

10 trips for $28 and 20 trips for $55.

The Specialized Transit Service is operated by Thomas Norris Limited. To book the Specialized Transit bus, registered clients phone the Owen Sound Transit Terminal at (519)376-7500. It is requested that appointments be booked at least one or two days in advance if possible. Bookings can be made up to two weeks in advance.

Beaver Valley Outreach (BVO)

Transportation may be requested for medical, dental, legal and parenting appointments. This service is provided for a minimal fee of $5.00 and is available to any member of the Blue Mountains community who is not covered by Home & Community Support Services or any other agencies.

First Student Canada – Grey Bruce Wheelchair accessible bus (former Laidlaw Transit)

Operates Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Ontario Disability Support Program:

If:

 you are receiving Ontario Disability Support Program Income Support, and  you and your family spend $15 or more a month on medical transportation

then you may be able to get help to cover these costs under the Mandatory Special Necessities benefit.

What are medical transportation costs?

Under the Ontario Disability Support Program, medical transportation costs are what your family pays to travel to and from a medical appointment with an approved healthcare professional such as a family doctor, optometrist or physiotherapist.

If you are attending mental health therapy, mental health counselling, or drug or alcohol recovery groups, the cost of transportation may also be covered under the Mandatory Special Necessities benefit. To find out if you are eligible for help with these transportation costs, please contact your Ontario Disability Support Program worker.

Ontario Works:

In addition to the monthly income assistance, clients may be eligible for Medical Transportation costs associated with traveling to attend medical appointments. Talk to your caseworker about eligibility.

Saugeen Mobility and Regional Transit (SMART)

We are a local specialized public transit service dedicated to the mobility needs of the mentally and physically challenged, elderly and frail residents of:

 Arran-Elderslie  Brockton  Hanover  Kincardine  West Grey

We provide non-emergency medical, employment and social transportation for individuals and groups. Transportation is normally by appointment but we will do our best to accommodate ‘on demand’ requests. A completed Client Registration Form is required and can be obtained from the website.

The Georgian HandiVan:

Available to any resident of the Municipality of Meaford who is physically disabled or has mobility limitations due to age or infirmity.

Service may be used for: • Going to work • Appointments or Meetings • Shopping • Recreation • Visiting friends • Going anywhere between Collingwood and Owen Sound

An attendant or companion is automatically eligible to use the HandiVan when they accompany a person of limited mobility.

A few reminders for when the van is on its way:

• Be ready to board • Show your eligibility card and pay your fare • The driver will assist you in getting on and off the Van, if required.
