HELLO DOLLY Auditions Scheduled
Tuscaloosa - Theatre Tuscaloosa will hold auditions for HELLO DOLLY! on April 26 and 27 at 7:00 P.M. in the Bean-Brown Theatre on the campus of Shelton State Community College at 9500 Old Greensboro Road in Tuscaloosa.
Directed by Paul K. Looney, HELLO DOLLY! has a book by Michael Stewart with music and lyrics by Jerry Herman and won the 1964 Tony Award for Best Musical. On a whirlwind race around New York at the turn of the twentieth century, HELLO, DOLLY! is the story of Mrs. Dolly Levi's efforts to marry Horace Vandergelder, the well-known half-a-millionaire, and send his money circulating among the people like rainwater the way her late husband, Ephraim Levi, taught her. Along the way she also succeeds in matching up the young and beautiful Widow Molloy with Vandergelder's head clerk, Cornelius Hackl; Cornelius' assistant, Barnaby Tucker, with Mrs. Molloy's assistant, Minnie Fay; and the struggling artist, Ambrose Kemper, with Mr. Vandergelder's weeping niece, Ermengarde. Hit songs from the show include: "Before the Parade Passes By," "It Only Takes a Moment," "Put On Your Sunday Clothes" and, of course, "Hello, Dolly."
Additional artistic staff for the show includes Stephen deGhelder as choreographer and Leslie Poss as musical director.
Auditionees are asked to prepare a musical theatre song and bring sheet music in the proper key. You will be asked to read from the script and participate in a movement audition. You should wear or bring hard-soled shoes and clothes that you can move in.
Principal roles are available for 5 women, ages 18-60, and 5 men, ages 18-60. In addition there is a large singing and dancing chorus of 12 to 22 individuals who are involved in ten major musical numbers.
