ALL HEAD TEACHERS & SUPPORT SERVICES MANAGERS

Dear Colleagues

OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY: SATURDAY 9th JUNE 2012

I would appreciate it, if you could remind your pupils, parents and staff of the above named event.

From previous letters issued, it was intimated that the Olympic Torch Relay will pass through Bearsden on Saturday the 9th June 2012.

Prior to the Core Olympic Torch Convoy reaching Bearsden, the ‘Activation Convoy’ will arrive. This will comprise of the Torchbearer Drop-off bus and three ‘Presenting Partner (main sponsor) Vehicles’. The Presenting Partner (Coca Cola, Lloyds TSB and Samsung) vehicles will be flat bed trucks fitted to accommodate other infrastructures such as large LED screens, sound systems etc. This ‘Activation Convoy’ should arrive at approximately 0800.

The actual Olympic Torch Convoy should reach Canniesburn Toll, Bearsden at 0815 when the first of the five Torchbearers will take charge of the Torch. The individual Torchbearers will run parts of the route right through Bearsden Cross until the beginning of Duntocher Road (at the junction of Drymen Road and Stockiemuir Road) when the final Torchbearer will hand the Torch back to the main Convoy vehicle at approximately 0838. The Convoy will then proceed to the next town, Duntocher.

Although it is difficult to estimate the number of people who will come along early on Saturday 9th June, it is anticipated that it will be very busy.

All schools, uniformed groups and community councils have had information sent out detailing the route and the times the Olympic Torch will pass through Bearsden.
