GameMaker Tutorial Tutorial Game Complete a first game and submit the finished game as a Blackboard Assessment. See a working example on my website.
A. Windows users. Complete the “My first game” tutorial, located under the Help menu. Submit two files, the source file and *executable file: game_name.gm81 and game_name.exe. B. Mac users. Complete a similar game. Click on help . See the general steps under “A Simple Example”, titled Let us look at an example. Details are in the sections that follow, for example, “Defining Sprites”. Download the “Examples and Assets” at the URL at the beginning of the example, http://wiki.yoyogames.com/images/d/d6/Assets.zip . Use the steps in the Windows tutorial to create your game. The sprites will be different but you should have similar functionality. Submit the source file: game_name.gmk
Grading: 50 points
1. 20 points for a running game 2. 12 points for four moving objects 3. 4 points for object actions that increase the score when the mouse is pressed 4. 4 points for a background 5. 4 points for sound 6. 4 points for correctly functioning bombs 7. 2 points for submitting the correct file(s) through Blackboard
Submission 1. Click the Blackboard Assessment; scroll to Assignment Materials, attach the correct file(s), add Submission title information in this section, then submit. 2. Title the Submission: [Mac or Win]_Tutorial class_day class_time your_name. (-1 pt)
To download GameMaker Lite go to http://www.yoyogames.com/ At the top of the page, on the GameMaker menu Under “Other versions” select either Windows or Mac as appropriate. Download GameMaker 8.1 Lite (Windows) or GM for Mac Lite (Mac).
* Windows: To create the executable in Game Maker, click File then Create Executable. Save the file, the file extension will be .exe. Make a note of where you save the file. Try running the file by double clicking the name. Upload this file and the .gm81 file to the Blackboard Assignment.
