This allows for students to work at their own pace, ask questions and receive feedback from their peers while they are working. Failure to use the class studio time to work on projects will result in a lowered grade and work habits marks, and may cause you to not have your work completed on time when it is due. There will be no extensions given to complete the work in cases such as this.

The course will be centered on assisting you in finding your distinct voice in photography and working towards creating a portfolio at the end of the year that showcases what you have developed. There will be training tutorials and projects that you will complete that will help you to find the styles and techniques that suit you the best. The first part of the class will be exploring many different types of photography, from studio to abstract and everything in between.

I expect you to conduct yourself in a professional manner when I send you out to do photo jobs and to represent our program and Canoga in a positive light. You will be my ‘A’ team, the individuals I know I can count on to get the job done, and get it done right. I will think of you not just as my students, but also as photo assistants. I am pleased to be able to share my knowledge with you and to learn from you as well. Some of the tasks we undergo this year will be new for you and I, so it will undoubtedly be exciting.

Every task or tutorial that we do will be assigned points. There will also be projects that you will complete that will the highest in point value, and you will be given a concept or main idea to work with that will require you to take specific kinds of photos that meet the provide criteria. Missing projects will drastically harm your grade and a few missing mini assignments will do the same. Although we have fun in class, everything you are doing is part of the learning process.

Grading:  Projects will each be accompanied with their own grading scale, ranging from 50 points to 250 points, dependant upon the project.  Grading for each project will be clearly defined for the student at the start of each project.  Areas to be examined will be:  Craftsmanship  Following directions and steps for the project  Turning projects in ON TIME  Completing personal written evaluations about the project.  Creating photographs that demonstrate a conceptual understanding of the projects being assigned; does the photo fulfill the assignment criteria?  Mini assignments are due at the end of the period unless otherwise instructed and range from 10-40 points, depending on the task.  Late projects will only be accepted 2 days after the deadline and late classwork will not be accepted. The only exception to this rule is a valid, excused absence.  Students are responsible for finding out what assignments they missed when they are absent from class.  Absent students will be given one extra day to make it up for each day of class that is missed.
