Course Description: This course is designed around individual and team sport activities and will involve the teaching of intermediate and advanced skills, techniques and strategies. Competition will be the means by which recreational enjoyment and fitness benefits are obtained. While this course includes fitness evaluation, it does not contain the required personal wellness plan component. This course fulfills the Physical Education District graduation requirement but does not fulfill the department's required wellness plan component. A physical education activity study guide will be supplied.

Course Objectives: After successfully completing this course, the student is expected to:

1. Demonstrate knowledge and skill in a variety of physical activities. 2. Apply offensive, defensive and cooperative strategies during games and sports. 3. Identify components which promote participation in lifetime sport activities. 4. Collect personal fitness data and use data to monitor individual wellness.

Credit: One (Regular) (Pass/Fail Level: 11/12 Prerequisite: None

Areas of Study: Aerobic activities II, Archery I, Badminton II, Basketball III, Fitness activities and testing III, Floor hockey II, Football II, Golf I, Pickleball I, Soccer II, Softball II, Speedball I, Tennis II, Volleyball III, Walk/Run/Jog I, Weight Training III. Other activities may be included.

Activities and options listed may be altered by a school according to resources and availability of facilities.

Textbooks: Study Guide

Safety Statement: Physical Education provides an excellent opportunity for students to develop as a total person. Sport skills and participation in games is one of the chief tools of the physical education classes. Emphasis is placed on safety of the individuals in these classes. All physical educators key on prevention of injury, but are prepared to handle injuries, give appropriate action, and follow through with the recovery if the need does arise.
