FATEPARA: SHRIMATI VANAROJA R.: Will the Minister of HOME AFFAIRS be pleased to state: (a) the cases of infiltration and smuggling reported and the number of infiltrators/smugglers arrested and killed at various international borders during the current year, State and border-wise; (b) the status of fencing and flood highlighting, State and border- wise; (c) the details of roads constructed along the border areas to check smuggling and infiltration, border-wise; and (d) the measures taken by the Government to check smuggling and infiltration at international borders of the country? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS (SHRI KIREN RIJIJU) (a) The details regarding cases of infiltration and smuggling, no. of infiltrators/smugglers arrested and killed at various international borders during the current year (up to 30/6/2015), State and border- wise are at Annexure. (b) The fencing and floodlighting has been sanctioned by the Government along the Indo-Bangladesh and Indo-Pakistan borders. Fencing has also been sanctioned in a small patch of about 10 km along the Indo-Myanmar border. --2/- -2- LS.US.Q.NO. 191. (c) The Government has sanctioned roads in border areas from strategic point of view to check smuggling and infiltration along the Indo-Bangladesh, Indo-China, Indo-Nepal, Indo-Bhutan and Indo- Pakistan borders. The steps taken in this regard inter-alia include: • Effective domination of the borders by the Border Guarding Forces (BGFs) through carrying out round the clock surveillance of the borders by patrolling nakas (border ambushes) and by deploying observation posts all along the international borders of the country. • The riverine segments of International Borders of the country are being patrolled and dominated with the help of water crafts/speed boats/floating Border Out Posts (BOPs) of Border Guarding Forces (BGFs). • Usages of Hi-Tech surveillance equipments along with day and night vision devices for further enhancing the border domination. • Vulnerability mapping of the Border Out Posts (BOPs) which are sensitive with regard to infiltration/smuggling along the Borders has been carried out. These identified BOPs have been strengthened by deploying additional manpower, Special Surveillance Equipment, vehicles and other infrastructure support. • Construction of fence, border roads, floodlights and additional Border Out Posts(BOPs) along the Borders. *** LS.US.Q.NO. 191.
