Activities Week 2017 Discover Cambridge

We are delighted that your child will be taking part in the Discover Cambridge activity during Activities Week at Cambourne Village College. This activity will be split between 2 locations: Cambridge and Grantchester.

The focus of this week will be to explore our local area. This is a chance to explore parts of Cambridge you might not usually see. You need to be prepared for a fair bit of walking (sometimes at speed!) and be keen to explore our city’s cultural heritage. The itinerary is as follows:

Monday: climbing Great St Mary’s Tower; walking along the river to Grantchester for a cream tea at the Orchard tea room; Tuesday: a Cambridge Treasure Hunt - including King’s College Chapel, selected colleges, the Round Church, picnic in the Botanic Gardens.

Where to Meet: Please meet at the front of school by reception for registration each morning, by 8.25am prompt: this is so that we can catch the bus into Cambridge.

What equipment / clothing does your child need?  Bring a large bottle of water to drink as there will be times when your teacher tells you to stop and take a drink.  Please ensure you bring a good packed lunch.  Wear your PE kit. We will be walking considerable distances, climbing towers and generally being active. We will be outside for much of the time. You will therefore need comfortable shoes and clothes, and waterproofs / hats and sun cream depending on the weather forecast.  Please ensure you have given any medication/inhalers to your teacher so that they are available for you during the session.  You may have a mobile phone in your bag BUT it must be switched off. For the Treasure Hunt, a camera phone will be useful, so you will be allowed to use it.

Parents should note that participation in extra-curricular activities is a privilege which is offered to pupils who consistently meet our Code of Conduct; students who do not meet high expectations of behaviour may not be offered the opportunity to take part in such events.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me by email on [email protected] or by calling Mrs Noble on 01954 284 000.
