Grand Knight’s Comments:
Past Events
On November 2 we held a blood drive and collected 35 units of Blood through the hard work of Brother Greg Adams and his faithful sidekick Brother Joe Graham.
Hats off to Brother Joe Maguire for conducting another excellent Membership Campaign. We were present at all the Masses on the weekends of November 8 and 9 as well as the 15 and 16. We had our Open House on November 20 for new recruits. It was a successful event. Thanks to everyone who came to the event and helped out in any way possible.
On the weekend of November 22 and 23 we sold “Keep Christ in Christmas “ signs outside of church before and after all the Masses. Hats off to Brothers Joe Graham, Thom Scattaregia and Jim Cassidy as well as all the Knights who stopped by to help. Did you know that our Council arranged for 1500 signs to be sold in Burlington County this year bringing our 3 year total to 2,000 signs. All of the proceeds from this sale will go to Options for Women, Cherry Hill, NJ. Options is a crisis pregnancy center which has assisted in the births of over 1500 babies. Quite an accomplishment!
Upcoming Events
The council will be holding a 1st degree as part of the monthly business meeting on December 4th. Please attend this event, as it is good to observe the Degrees from time to time and support the new Knights. We are targeting another Open House sometime soon for recruits that couldn’t make our November Open House.
Each Christmas season the Knights volunteer to decorate the exterior of the parish buildings. I write to you asking for your assistance. Volunteers are needed on Saturday, December 6, 2014, 8:30 AM, to decorate the parish campus. We will decorate the exterior of the parish buildings, hang garland around the lamp posts, and decorate the porches. All Knights are invited to participate in this project.
The early morning start is necessary so that upon completion, members can then help prepare for the "Lunch with Santa" program which takes place after the noon Moorestown Christmas parade. Young adults are also welcome to assist. This is a good opportunity to earn service hours. We should finish the project in about 90 minutes. Please reserve the date now. Plan to share some of your time with brother Knights as we help prepare Our Lady's parish for the Christmas celebration. Let Thom Scattaregia, [email protected] know your availability.
Our annual Lunch with Santa will be held on December 6th in the OLGC School Cafeteria. Brother Greg Klint and Mike Olshansky are once again heading up this important event. Please contact either one of them to volunteer at [email protected] or [email protected]. Dave Lyzinski, DGK - It is time to make your reservations for the 2014 Christmas Dinner!

Other Items
FINANCIAL SECRETARY: Tom Bell
You will soon be receiving you 2015 dues notices and you will see that it differs from those in the past. At the 2014 Supreme Convention, the Supreme Laws and Rules of the Order Section 118 (b) was amended so that dues, previously billed and paid quarterly, are now to be billed an annually.
Council dues are assessed at $ 36.00 per annum for all Insurance and Associate Members with the exception of Honorary Membership, which is $ 14.00, and Honorary-Life and Disabled Members which is $ 0.00.
I realize that these have not been the best of times and we have members who are unable to pay their dues do to financial constraints because of the lack of income. The Council does not want to suspend anyone’s membership due to the lack of the ability to pay their dues, and yet 21% of the membership is in arrears for a year or more.
If you are unable to pay your dues on an annual basis or are in the arrears, please, contact me so we can work something out either for relief or a payment plan to catch you up to date. In some cases, members who cannot work due to physical limitations can apply for relied when, if granted, the member will no longer be required to pay his annual dues, and the Council will not be required to pay that members per capita taxes to the Supreme or State Councils and to the Chapter.
However, we need to know who you are to help you. Please contact me Tom Bell F.S. at 856-235-6266 ([email protected]), or Dr. John Sherry Grand Knight, at 856-235-3155 ([email protected]), or Dave Lyzinski, Deputy Grand Knight and Retention Committee Chairman at 856-235-0845 ([email protected]), or any other Officer of the Council. Everything will remain in confidence. Please, we want to see you remain a member of Moorestown Council 1802.
Blood Drive – Greg Adams
We are planning a blood drive in the month of January but as of the writing of this newsletter the final date has not yet been confirmed. Brother Knights we need your help to be on the committee for this event. Please contact Greg Adams at [email protected]. if you can assist in any way.
Vocation Director - Stuart Altschuler
Whereas through past fundraisers, the Moorestown Council 1082 has raised over $1,000 in identified funds that are earmarked to help the seminarians of the Diocese of Trenton, And whereas the Council desires to donate these funds through the Refund Support Vocations Program, otherwise known as RSVP, where the Supreme Council rebates the donating Council $100 for every $500 donated, And whereas the requirements for RSVP are that to be eligible for refund, monies must be given directly to an individual (not a an institution of fund)); money given to an individual must be vocations related and donated between July – June 30 of the respective fraternal year; paid with a check drawn from the council-assembly account; and copies of check or other documentation must accompany application for refund,
It is therefore Resolved that the Council identify two seminarians as designated by the Vocations Director of the Diocese of Trenton, and make a donation of $500 to each of the two designated seminarians.
This resolution is hereby submitted for first approval on December 4, 2014. The resolution shall be made available in both print and electronic media and sent to all Council members as part of the next Council newsletter.
The resolution will then be presented at the regularly scheduled business meeting to be held on January 8, 2015 for a vote. Passage of the same will require the affirmative vote of two thirds (2/3) of those members present.

Culture of Life – Dave Lyzinski With the approval of Former Supreme Director, Jim White, PSD, we are forwarding this Action Alert from New Jersey Catholic Conference:
S382, a bill authorizing assisted suicide may be heard by the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee as early as December 8. An identical bill, A2270 was passed by the General Assembly on Thursday, November 13, 2014 by a vote of 41 to 31.
If your Senator is on the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee, please ask them to vote "No" on S382 - the Aid in dying for the Terminally Ill Act. If your Senator is not on the Committee, please ask them to urge their colleagues on the Committee to vote no on the bill.
Pro – Life Director – Joe Graham Nov 15, 2014 Priests for Life and Fr. Frank Pavone have filed a lawsuit claiming the HHS mandate to provide contraceptives as part of necessary "healthcare" violates rights of conscience. The U.S. Court of Appeals, DC Circuit, which is packed with Obama appointees, has supposedly ruled in favor of Priests for Life suit. There is, however, a slight problem. Catholic University, for example, is one of the affected organizations. Once the organization notifies HHS that they will not provide abortion-inducing drugs or contraceptives as part of the health plan, then the government will step in and "fill the gap". Quoting Fr. Pavone, " "Today's decision states that our moral objection to the government's "opt-out" mechanism is not their problem." Fr. Pavone went on to say, "Priests for Life will not obey the HHS mandate. To ask a group of priests to cooperate in the government's plan to expand access to birth control and abortion-inducing drugs is about as contrary to religious freedom as you can get."
District Deputy – Ed Michalak
Congratulations to the Grand Knight and Membership Director for an excellent job with the Fall recruitment program. Recruiting new members is essential to the continued growth and well-being of our Council and the Order. Membership in the Knights of Columbus gives the Catholic gentleman the opportunity to improve his own life and his community. Membership allows him to experience the fraternal bond that Knights share while growing closer to his family and faith. Please consider running another successful recruitment program this Spring.
Brother Knights - On behalf of all our officers we wish each and every one of you and your families a Happy and Holy Christmas and a Safe and Healthy New Year ! Vivat Jesus, John M. Sherry, Grand Knight
