SaveOnEnergy.com PREPARES TEXAS CUSTOMERS FOR END OF “PRICE TO BEAT” RATES Dallas-Based Energy Firm Ready for New Level of Competition
DALLAS — Sept. 18, 2006 – As the January 1, 2007, deadline approaches that will end “price to beat” rates and mark a new level of competition for Texas electricity providers, SaveOnEnergy.com is emerging at the forefront of an entirely new type of marketplace. The company is a source of unbiased information about retail energy costs in Texas.
In 1999, the Texas legislature passed Senate Bill 7, creating competition for the sale of electricity and giving customers the power to choose their provider. The deregulation bill carried with it a clause known as “price to beat” which took the average bundled electric rates at that time and reduced them by six percent. Texas lawmakers put a provision in the law that as of Jan 1, 2007, “price to beat” will dissolve -- resulting in the marketplace to dictate rates. Once “price to beat” is no longer on the books, Texas will be the only state with a truly free electricity market.
“With ‘price to beat’ going away in Texas, electricity providers will be going to great lengths to offer the best prices and services to ultimately win the customer’s business,” said Brent Moore, founder and president of SaveOnEnergy.com. “We’re urging customers to become educated on purchasing electricity and to be aware of the numerous options available to them. You need to know how much you’re paying for electricity – just like you would with a mortgage rate or a gallon of gasoline.”
An industry changing company, Dallas-based SaveOnEnergy.com was spurred by the deregulation of the Texas electricity business and is now being embraced by both suppliers and consumers. SaveOnEnergy.com, which aims to be the Hotels.com of the Texas power business, expects to revolutionize the way customers shop for electricity during these highly competitive times.
“We know customers in Texas have options when it comes to choosing their retail electric provider. Part of competition is bringing competitive offerings to Texas consumers, and we have taken a leadership role in establishing rebates and discounts off the ‘price to beat’ to help mitigate price volatility for our customers," said Phil Tonge, President of U.S. Operations, Direct Energy. "SaveOnEnergy.com is a valuable resource for consumers who are researching their energy options, and therefore a key channel for retailers such as Direct Energy who are focused on providing competitive products that help customers better manage their energy costs." -more- SaveOnEnergy.com Prepares Texas Customers for End of “Price to Beat”
