Sophie and Mark in Hungary

Sophie and Mark in Hungary

Sophia and Mark landed in the capital city of Hungary, Budapest.

They visited some of the famous buildings: Buda Castle Hill, Chain Bridge, Matthias Church, Budapest Parliament, Royal Palace, Heroes Square, and Gellért Hill.

They couldn’t find the dove anywhere, so they decided to travel around this country.

First they caught a train and travelled to Lake Balaton. It is the biggest lake of Middle-Europe (length: 77 km, width: 1.3-14 km). Lots of tourists come to spend their vacation here. Lake Balaton is famous for its water; you can bathe or swim in it. You can also go sailing, fishing, and do other water sports, as well as visiting the countryside and hills, wineries on the north coast, or just wondering the beautiful lavender fields in Tihany. The lake is almost completely surrounded by separated bike lanes to facilitate bicycle tourism. Sophie and Mark saw the dove for a minute but it flew away so they left the lake and travelled towards. Soon they came to Szeged. This city is the fourth largest city of Hungary, the largest city and regional centre of the Southern Great Plain and the county town of Csongrád County. The University of Szeged is one of the most distinguished universities in Hungary. Szeged is also known as the home of paprika, a spice made from dried, powdered capsicum fruits.

As the kids were walking in the city centre, they suddenly saw the dove flying over the River Tisza. So they decided to follow it. Soon they arrived in Hortobágy, which is a national park in eastern Hungary, rich with folklore and cultural history. The Hortobágy is Hungary's largest protected area, and the largest semi-natural grassland in Europe.

But the dove was nowhere. Sophie and Mark continued their travelling. Soon they arrived in a little town, Tiszavasvári which is located in the Northern Great Plain region of eastern Hungary. This is not a big town only 13,000 people live here.

As the kids were travelling in the town they saw the dove again. It was flying above them. They followed it and they came to a place full of children. This is a school, Tiszavasvári Általános Iskola (Tiszavasvári Primary School).

The children showed the building and the playground of the school to Sophie and Mark and helped them to find the feather.

Finally they found the feather and the two children left Hungary to travel to Poland.
