Emmaus Medway Ltd Retail Operations Manager Job Description

Location: Emmaus Medway, Rochester, Chatham. Sittingbourne

Hours 40 hours per week including Saturdays Accountable to: Director Responsible for: The safe and profitable operation of the Emmaus retail stores Managing the overall activities of companions and volunteers engaged in any activity that support the retail stores including the van crews

Purpose of the Job

 To maximise sales income, gift aid income and ensure all goods are clean and priced  Create eye-catching window and in-store displays of donated goods to promote the image, products and services of the charity  To provide effective guidance and direction to companion shop teams and volunteers to enable them to develop retail skills including visual merchandising, good housekeeping and customer interaction

Duties and Responsibilities

General Responsibilities  Contribute to growing the business and to the maximisation of profit from shop operations and other business activities  Manage the efficient and effective day to day operation of all stores

Management & Administration  Ensure the counter and retail operation is covered at all times and provide cover where necessary  Work closely with the Finance Officer to produce management information to inform noth operational and strategic decisions in relation to the retail operations of the organisation  Oversee the co-ordination, sorting, pricing and display stock to maximise sales  Ensure electrical items have current PAT test before display in the shop  Manage stock control at shops to ensure fully stocked and attractively displayed  To ensure a safe and secure working environment for Companions, volunteers, staff and customers  Overall responsibility to make sure each retail outlet meets/exceeds its targets and controls costs  Delivering the training and development to companions, staff and volunteers in retail related areas (e.g. visual merchandising, customer services, health and safety, retail and trading law)  Respond to any customer care issues  Use social media to promote shops on a weekly basis  Maximise online sales via eBay and Gumtree  Be active in the Emmaus Business Peer Group, local trade associations and national membership bodies such as the Charity Retail Association to both observe and share best practice

Other Duties  Any other duties and tasks deemed necessary.

General

Emmaus works with vulnerable people. Staff and volunteers must observe the proper demarcation and professional boundaries while performing their role.

You must always act in a way which will maintain the good reputation of Emmaus Medway, upholding the policies and procedures of Emmaus. You should strive to preserve good working relationships with Staff, Volunteers, Companions and the Trustees, keeping the appropriate key personnel well informed of significant matters relating to the Community.

We expect you to carry out your job responsibilities in an environmentally aware manner. Our aim is to ensure all resources are utilised effectively and efficiently. You will be expected to apply sound ‘value for money’ principles in undertaking purchasing or supply of goods and services.

Essential Desirable Experience  Visual merchandising in a retail  Interest in Art and Design environment  Recycling or second-hand retail  Experience in charity retail experience  Line management experience  Working with vulnerable people or  Self-motivated and practical people with challenging behaviour  Customer service  Working with volunteers  Social Media – Facebook and Twitter  Recycling experience  Staff and/or volunteer training

Knowledge and Commitment  Demonstration of a belief in and, the  Homelessness issues ability to, adopt and work within the Emmaus principles  Understanding of the retail environment  Retail and trading law  Health & Safety: fire safety, manual handling, first aid, security

Education / Professional Certification GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English Course work in:  Art and Design  Health and Safety  First Aid  Other education and training in relevant fields
