What effect could the funding changes have on less popular sports? develop a deeper understanding of the sports funding debate by conducting Sports funding a survey or questionnaire. Watch the BtN Sports funding story again and ask students to record the main issues raised in the story. Discuss the pros and cons of the recommendations of the report. Students will be finding out what public opinion is about the issue by conducting a survey or a `what do you reckon?’ (Video or audio recordings) To ensure students have a clear understanding of the issue, they will need to write a brief summary of the issue. This summary can be used to explain the issue to interviewees. Students will interview a range of people – students, parents, teachers, family and friends. To get a range of opinions, at least five people will need to be interviewed.

Students will need to devise questions for their survey/questionnaire. Some possibilities include:

 What role does sport play in Australia?  How important is winning Olympic medals? .  Should more money be given to popular, non-Olympic sports like cricket, football, tennis and surfing? Why or why not?  Do big events like the Olympics encourage children to take up sport?

Discuss with student how they can present their responses. This will depend on how students recorded the interviews/responses. Students could create a `What do you reckon?’ segment similar to the one on BtN. Other options include:
