Course Repeats

December 11, 2014

That’s correct, Kim. This is one reason you wrote your own calculations (because the system was suppressing repeat grades). We want all grades calculated for all courses for the purpose of academic progress to accurately reflect the student’s academic standing. Course repeats and grade suppression is for the purpose of graduation.

Hey all,

So here’s the latest status on the academic progress report:

1. The report works (i.e., it doesn’t time out anymore)

2. F grades – calculating correctly.

3. Early withdraws (W’s from before the official “W” date). These are students where the “@” symbol was used. I realized that these courses and grades are still recorded in the Transcript database; they’re just suppressed from displaying on student transcripts. I wrote a fix-it for this. These grades now appear as “W****” on the report; however, they don’t count for or against anything.

4. ('6-Applied for admission but has not enrolled in classes') – These are all the students who applied for admission for the quarter (i.e., they have a valid admission number); however, they don’t have a course record. However, if they are former students who are reapplying for admission their previous academic standing will carry over. I think we wanted a way to reach- out to all of the potentially troublesome students.

5. I added an unusual action column to the report. This is just pulling from what’s currently in SMS.

6. Editing MyWCC query – do we still want to edit this to first pull the unusual action code in SMS and then default to the academic progress table if there isn’t anything? Thank you,

Academic Progress

1. Students starting on Suspension and then re-entering as Conditional: if S and then re-enroll, then coded at that point as CO (in unusual action table) – if allowed to enroll, then if below 2.0 quarterly and/or below 50% then S, if above then stay at S on report and CO status overall (in the future we will fix this, not leave as is…

2. Add column in report… with Unusual action codes – SU or CO, PR

3. S – two status if re-enroll, g – if cumm ok, or pr if cumm not ok…

4. Look into students who withdraw before deadline, is this really pulling

5. Look into getting rid of headings, takes time to edit out

6. If fall all classes comes up as 100% complete , 870153678, in the middle of 20 quarters enrolled, S/U, what graded???

7. LATE fee – shouldn’t be included as credit course

8. UA code overrides whatever is in the Academic progress table

9. I let Registration know when query updated (with UA column), then they look at the unusual action screen and update, then I repopulate table with data…

10. Emily’s MyWCC query needs to be updated to reflect academic progress table, but if ua code not match default to ua code

11. FIX report: F’s and early W (before the deadline shouldn’t be included) -- Mike will find an SID

12. Email that report is fixed…
