Carl Reddel, Brig. Gen. USAF (Ret.), Executive Director, Eisenhower Memorial Commission to speak to the Wichita Rotary.

Wichita – Brig. Gen. Carl Reddel will speak to the members of Rotary Club of Wichita (AKA Wichita Downtown Rotary) on Monday, April 29 at Botanica, The Wichita Gardens, 701 N. Amidon. Brig. Gen. Reddel is the executive director of the Eisenhower Memorial Commission in Washington D.C. and will be the featured speaker during the luncheon meeting, addressing the scope of the commission. It is expected that he will begin speaking at 12:30 pm.

The bi-partisan Commission was created by Congress in 1999. The 12-member Commission includes four Members of the United States Senate and four members of the U.S. House of Representatives. World renowned architect Frank Gehry was selected to design the memorial through a federal competition process managed by the General Services Administration’s Design Excellence Program in 2009 and the Commission chose a preferred design concept for the memorial in 2010.

Commission Chairman Rocco Siciliano, a World War II combat veteran, has served as Chairman of the Eisenhower World Affairs Institute. The late Senator Daniel Inouye, D-HI, also a World War II combat veteran and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, served as Vice Chairman of the Eisenhower Memorial Commission until his death in December, 2012.

About General Reddel:

Brigadier General Carl Reddel began work with the Eisenhower Memorial Commission in 2001, while he was Public Service Fellow in the Center for Public Service at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania. During 1999 - 2000, he was President and CEO of the Eisenhower World Affairs Institute in Washington, D.C. Prior to joining the Institute, he was Professor and Head of the Department of History at the United States Air Force Academy. After joining the Commission in 2001, General Reddel organized the Commission’s administration and staffing in cooperation with the Agency Liaison Division of the General Services Administration. The Commission undertook a review of twenty-six alternative sites for the Eisenhower Memorial. The review was completed in 2005 with the assistance of the architectural firm, Gensler. General Reddel oversaw securing Congressional approval in 2006 for the selected site location and in 2008 the choice of Frank Gehry as the designer of the Eisenhower Museum.

A specialist in Russian studies, Gen. Reddel served as a Team Chief of the On- Site Inspection Agency (OSIA) for the implementation of the Intermediate Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, leading missile destruction teams in the former Soviet Union. He also completed training for inspections under the Convention-al Armed Forces in Europe (CFE) Treaty.
