On behalf of the Department of X at the University of Georgia, I am pleased to offer you the position of Assistant Professor. Your tenure status will be tenure track. Your appointment will be effective 14 August 2015 for the 2015-2016 academic year and is renewable annually pending a satisfactory review of your performance. Your academic year salary will be $65,000, paid out over 10 months according to the University of Georgia’s standard payroll calendar. Your direct supervisor will be the Department Head in X, currently Name, PhD. This offer is subject to the final approval of the President of the University of Georgia and execution of an appropriate academic year tenure-track contract.

TERMS OF OFFER

 DUTIES AND ASSIGNMENTS: The University of Georgia is a land-grant and sea-grant university with state-wide commitments and responsibilities for instruction, research, and outreach. Your allocation of effort at appointment will be 50% (.375 EFT) teaching/instruction and 50% (.375 EFT) research/scholarship. This allocation of effort may be revised during the term of your employment. Instructional expectations include teaching the equivalent of four 3-credit hour courses per academic year and demonstrating effectiveness in the classroom, in supervision, and in mentoring students. Scholarly expectations include developing an active program of research; disseminating your findings in high-impact, peer-reviewed venues; and acquiring external funding to support your research. While your primary duties are expected to be in the areas of instruction and research, as a member of the faculty you also will be expected to contribute through service to the department, the institution, and your profession.

 ELIGIBILITY FOR EMPLOYMENT: This offer of employment is contingent upon completion of a background investigation demonstrating your eligibility for employment in accordance with University System of Georgia Background Investigation policy at http://www.usg.edu/hr/manual/background_investigation. Employment at the University of Georgia is subject to verification of an applicant’s identity and eligibility for employment as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 as amended.  EMPLOYEE BENEFITS: This position is eligible for health, retirement, and other benefits as established by the University of Georgia and the Board of Regents. Your appointment will be effective on 14 August 2015. As such, per Board of Regents’ policy, you must enroll for health and other insurance benefits on or before your contract effective date for your benefits to be effective on your contract effective date. Otherwise, your benefits will become effective the first day of the month following the enrollment date. Please note: A faculty member on academic contract may enroll prior to his/her contract date, but coverage cannot become effective prior to his/her contract date.  PERSONAL MOVING EXPENSES: The University of Georgia will reimburse you for documented expenses up to $5000 to help defray the cost of your personal move and relocation. To be eligible for this reimbursement, you must execute a Relocation and Moving Expense Agreement, which is included in this package. Please return the signed for to me with this letter.  START-UP FUNDING: You will be provided with a budget of $5000 to support your selection of office or portable computers, computer peripherals, or other supplies to support your work. All items will remain the property of the University of Georgia.
