January 7, 2013 The Carlsbad High School Choir Caroling group brought lots of cheer by singing a collection of secular and religious holiday songs. PROGRAMS Walt Waggener, who has done an admirable job of coordinating our Rotary MICRO LENDING IN RURAL AFRICA, PHIL JEMMETT Foundation Golf Tournament for nine years, reported that the tournament has been very successful in providing scholarship funds. Jan 14 Citizen Emergency Response Team, David Harrison Jan 21 DARK (MLK Holiday) In the absences of Mark Havel and Kurt Filipovitch, Eric Lodge reported that the Jan 28 Servant Leadership, Art Barter Oktoberfest net was $71,000, which we split with the Evening Club, with distributions also to the Police and Fire Explorers and the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation. OTHER EVENTS Phil Urbina reported on another successful Christmas Bureau. With help from many Mar 16 District Assembly: 8:30am – Noon, USD Kroc Center, San Diego members of our Club, many smiles were brought to 455 Carlsbad families. President Mar 27 Hi-Noon Rotary’s AVID Conference – details to come Yvonne asked Phil to continue standing, while she announced that he has accepted the job of Chairman of the 2013 Oktoberfest. MEETING OF DECEMBER 17, 2012 Stan Prowse/International Service reported on International contributions from the club, which included $2,500 to a water project in India, $1,500 towards our ongoing President Yvonne Finocchiaro set the tone for the meeting, support of the school in Belize for solar panels and batteries. (Ken Clark reported that dressed in her Christmas sweater and awesome customized they can now run their fans all day.) Hi-Noon provided $200 to a school in Costa Rica. Santa hat. Steve Mott led the pledge. Words were given by Phil Harry Peacock noted that we have pledged $2,500 for a well in Tanzania in Masai Urbina. Stan Prowse then led the Club in Amazing Grace to where there are no roads and it is 56 miles to town. The well will be at least 600 feet commemorate the tragedy in Connecticut and then in It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like deep and will cost $60,000. Guests and prospective members were then introduced including a contingent from the Dawn Van Siclen/Vocational Service shared our ongoing projects: The Carlsbad High CHS Interact Club who were so instrumental in making the Kids Christmas Party at School Interact club, LEAD (a leadership camp for 8th graders similar to RYLA) Raising Jefferson School fun for the kids and adults in addition to their help on Oktoberfest (they Readers led by Robyn Hill, dictionaries delivered to 12 schools led by Patty Johnson, both worked the event and spent 6 hours counting Oktoberfest tickets) and other club Lunch & Learn, and the Four-Way Speech Contest. Al Torkar is working on a video projects. PSA about Rotary, RYLA and AVID in his role leading Club PR.

Kori Dolkas/Club Service reported that there are many hands involved in the success of the Club through the bulletin, meeting set-up, programs, social events, sunshine, calendar, and manning the front desk every Monday. Josh Rytz/Membership reported that we have had six new members in the last six months. His goal is to double that amount to 12 more in the next six months. There will be two new members inducted in January.

Maureen Simons/Secretary reminded us to e-mail her meeting make-ups. The system requires they be reported within two weeks.

Eric Lodge/Treasurer reported that Club Runner now e-mails quarterly bills which will help to keep our dues paid in a timely manner. He also reminded us that $25 of our PROGRAM: CARLSBAD HIGH SCHOOL CAROLERS dues each quarter go to the Foundation and are tax deductible. Velyn Anderson/Community Service, (taking over from Mike Holland) reported Club Official Publication of the donations year-to- date of $7300 to Carlsbad Ed Foundation, La Posada, LCYO, TIPS, Veterans Association of North County, CHS Music Festival and Tulare water project. CARLSBAD HI-NOON ROTARY CLUB We project additional funds of $10,550 to be made by the end of the year as dues are P.O Box 741, Carlsbad, CA 92018 paid. Additional hands-on local projects supported include Batiquitos Lagoon trail, Pendleton Military Outreach Ministries, Stand Up for Kids, La Posada, Jefferson Kids President: Yvonne Murchison Finocchiaro party and Christmas deliveries, Christmas Bureau, Senior Center Christmas deliveries Editor: Mary Fritz-Wilson and weekly deliveries of Meals on Wheels.
