1 BIL: 5048 2 TYP: House Resolution HR 3 INB: House 4 IND: 20000509 5 PSP: Hosey 6 SPO: Hosey and Rhoad 7 DDN: l:\council\bills\swb\5224djc00.doc 8 DPB: 20000509 9 SUB: Jefferson Davis Academy Lady Raiders Girls Varsity Basketball Team, 10 Resolutions 11 12 13 14 HST: 15 16 Body Date Action Description Com Leg Involved 17 ______18 House 20000509 Introduced, adopted 19 20 21 Versions of This Bill 22 23 24 25 26 TXT: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A HOUSE RESOLUTION 10 11 TO CONGRATULATE THE SCHOOL OFFICIALS, COACHES, 12 AND MEMBERS OF THE JEFFERSON DAVIS ACADEMY 13 “LADY RAIDERS” BASKETBALL TEAM ON THE 14 OCCASION OF THEIR WINNING THE SOUTH CAROLINA 15 INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION 2000 16 CLASS A GIRLS BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP. 17 18 Whereas, teamwork and the cooperative effort by the members of a 19 team to achieve a common goal is absolutely essential to winning 20 in the highly competitive game of basketball; and 21 22 Whereas, in addition to natural athletic ability and teamwork, 23 skilled coaching and player dedication are also essential to 24 winning, all of which was evident with the 2000 Jefferson Davis 25 Academy “Lady Raiders” Basketball Team as they defeated 26 Bowman Academy 36-33 to win their second straight “back to 27 back” South Carolina Independent School Athletic Association 28 Class A Girls Basketball Championship; and 29 30 Whereas, under the outstanding leadership of Head Coach Robyne 31 Joyner, and as a result of the competitive spirit, teamwork, and 32 excellent performances of team members Alicia Bazemore, Rachel 33 Dyches, Lauren Hall, Kacey Haralson, Kelley Jeffcoat, Lee Anne 34 Mazat, Meg Owens, Tara Platts, Cassie Still, and Jill Templeton 35 cinched the Region I-A championship and went on to claim the 36 1999-2000 conference title; and 37 38 Whereas, the successful basketball program at Jefferson Davis 39 Academy would not be possible without the leadership and support 40 of the Trustees of Jefferson Davis Academy, Principal Louis 41 O’Gorman, the staff and faculty, all of whom deserve recognition
1 [5048] 1 1 for their contribution to the success of every aspect of Jefferson 2 Davis Academy; and 3 4 Whereas, in recognition of the many hours of practice, hard work, 5 dedication, and sacrifice reflecting the Jefferson Davis Academy 6 girls basketball team winning the 1999 and 2000 South Carolina 7 Independent Schools Athletic Association’s Class A girls 8 basketball championships “back to back”, the members of the 9 House of Representatives wish to publicly recognize and 10 congratulate this outstanding group of young ladies, their coaches, 11 and supporting school officials, upon their tremendous victory and 12 to wish them continued success in the future. Now, therefore, 13 14 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 15 16 That the members of the House of Representatives, by this 17 resolution, congratulate the school officials, coaches, and members 18 of the Jefferson Davis Academy girls basketball team on the 19 occasion of their winning the South Carolina Independent Schools 20 Athletic Association 2000 Class A Girls Basketball Championship. 21 22 Be it further resolved that copies of this resolution be presented to 23 the championship Jefferson Davis Academy girls basketball team. 24 ----XX----
