Background Service Changes / Rational A review of adult mental health services across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan was undertaken in 2010. It recommended that a new model of care should be implemented which included reducing in patient beds. The new mental health unit proposed for University Hospital Llandough reflects the new model of care and reduction in beds. Changes are currently underway within the Adult service at Whitchurch which also affects Llanfair unit . The model includes; Crisis assessment ward –offer significant advantages in terms of rapid assessment and treatment initiation, formulation of care and treatment plan and a reduced length of stay. The ward will be clinically aligned to the existing Crisis service and these will be managed as a single entity. Locality wards – will provide a more recovery focused way of working with opportunity for more 1:1 time, psychological interventions and group work. Each Locality ward will accept service users from 2-3 Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs) and closer links with the CMHTs and Care Co-coordinators will be vital
