Provide a high level of clinical services utilising a range of modalities relevant to child and adolescent mental health as a senior member of a multidisciplinary team. The Senior Mental Health Clinician will manage a portfolio within Child and Youth Mental Health Services (Intake, Acute and Inpatient Services) and actively contribute to the delivery of clinical child and youth mental health services in collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders to optimise psychosocial outcomes for children and young people with complex mental health issues.
Your key responsibilities Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with Queensland Health’s core values, as outlined above. Deliver independent clinical services in accordance with the ethical standards of the appropriate professional organisation and the National Practice Standards for the Mental Health Workforce. This includes: - Provision of high level independent clinical services including intake, assessment, treatment and management of children, young people and their families with severe and complex mental health problems. Demonstrate ability to manage a complex clinical caseloads and independent clinical practice. Demonstrate clinical leadership for the mental health needs of consumers and their carers, on intake, of those requiring acute crisis services or on an admission to a Mental Health Facility or Hospital Unit. Demonstrated expertise in the area of clinical practice in a child and youth mental health setting. Apply independent professional judgement based on valid and reliable evidence to a complex consumer management and contribute to the development of best practice clinical services within the child and youth mental health team. Contribute to the development of clinical practices, procedures and protocols, for the multi- disciplinary team that supports continuum of care. Provide clinical supervision to less experienced staff and training and supervision to students as delegated to ensure the maintenance of evidenced clinical standards within child and youth mental health. Develop, implement and evaluate within the service unit, quality activities to continually improve the care of young people with severe and complex mental health problems. Comply with procedures, policies and standards of Queensland Health and professional associations/society’s or registration boards. Qualifications/Professional registration/Other requirements Registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and a current annual practising certificate are mandatory for this position. Post Graduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing is highly desirable. Credentialing as a Mental Health Nurse by the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses is highly desirable. Membership of the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses is desirable. This position may be required to provide an extended hours service or on-call arrangement.

Demonstrated ability to provide clinical services of a complex nature, with a high degree of independence and capacity to adapt or modify practice to meet complex and emerging consumer and carer needs. Demonstrated ability to initiate, monitor and evaluate local service improvement initiatives and provide clinical supervision and specific professional advice to service manager.

About the Hospital and Health Service/Division/Branch/Unit Central Queensland Mental Health Service (CQMHS) is a fully integrated mental health service with a 23-bed Inpatient Unit in Rockhampton, Adult and Child and Youth Community Mental Health teams, a Psycho-geriatric team, designated Indigenous mental health staff and an acute community assessment team.
The extended mental health network consists of the Rockhampton, Gladstone, Banana, Central Highlands and Central West Health Service Hubs. The CQMHS has strong links to the specialised tertiary mental health services in South-East Queensland.
The Rockhampton Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) provide services to the 0-18 year old age group and their families/carers. The Senior Mental Health Clinician is accountable to the Program Coordinator of Child and Youth Mental Health and will provide clinical supervision to more junior Child and Youth Mental Health Staff.
