Info and Rules for Competition Teams

1. Competition Teams are comprised of JV and Varsity.

2. JV/Varsity teams are determined by wrestle offs that are conducted at the beginning of that weeks’ event whether it is a match or a team tournament. Wrestle offs are single elimination.

3. You can only miss ONE practice per week to be considered in good standing for that particular week. If you are not in good standing, then you are not eligible to wrestle on the competition team for the first match of that week. Exceptions will be given for emergencies such as fire, death in the immediate family, car accident, etc. Sickness is not excused.

4. If you must miss a Varsity match or tournament you must call or text Coach Scott (570) 977-4258 ahead of time so that arrangements can be made to fill the spot. A No Call No Show is unacceptable and not fair to the rest of the team. The first time this happens then you will not be eligible for the entire next competition event; the 2nd time this happens you will be ineligible for the competition team the remainder of the year.

5. You must make weight. This is not fair to the rest of the team that is counting on you. If you miss weight for Varsity you will not be eligible to wrestle in the first match the next week. If you are Varsity buy a scale that reads to 0.1 lbs.

6. The first athlete to win 3 wrestle offs for a particular weight class will “lock” that weight class and no longer be able to be challenged for that weight class for the rest of the year.

7. The coaches have full authority to adjust the lineup as needed for any particular match or team tournament. You are only allowed to bump up one weight class for safety reasons by league and PIAA rules. Coaches will use this to their advantage to try to get the best match ups with the other teams line up.

8. You must weigh in at scratch weight for a particular weight class in December to be eligible for that weight class in the end of year tournament.

9. Every weight class will get a one pound growth allowance in January.

10. Advanced practice eligibility will be determined by the coaches. Athletes who earn a Varsity spot are automatically eligible for the advanced practice. Experienced JV wrestlers will be eligible whereas inexperienced JV wrestlers will still attend the novice practices. 11. During varsity matches your child must stay on the bench to cheer on his teammates. No electronic devices.
