The Vincennes Area Market Media Description – Summer 2013

The Vincennes Area Market is a self contained retail, wholesale, industrial, medical, and educational market consisting primarily of Knox and Daviess counties in Indiana and Lawrence County, Illinois. Some portions of Dubois, Pike, Daviess, Sullivan, Greene, Wabash, and Martin counties are also tied to the market. While most of the market is in the Terre Haute, IN DMA, some of it is in the Evansville, IN DMA. Both Metros are over fifty miles away from Vincennes – the largest community in the Vincennes Market which according to Eastlan has a population of 127,800. The primary industry is agriculture, with grain and truck farming leading the way. Livestock production (especially poultry) and processing and oil and natural gas production are growing. Satellite auto parts plants in the Vincennes Market serve the large Toyota assembly plant in Princeton Indiana. Medical services (there are 111 Medical Doctors and a regional medical center are located in Vincennes) and education (Vincennes University) round out the major job providers.

The majority of television viewing is done to the two VHF stations in Terre Haute, with Evansville broadcast television still very strong though. The market has one of the highest penetrations of satellite television viewers (the Terre Haute DMA was 5th in the nation in one recent year) in the country so cable television may not be a cost effective advertising choice. Vincennes proper has two cable television suppliers – one sells advertising and one does not. Satellite viewers do not get any Evansville television stations and cable viewers in Lawrence, Knox, and Daviess Counties get both Evansville and Terre Haute television stations.

Very little “outside” audio media has much impact on the advertising in the market because both the Terre Haute and Evansville signals have trouble blanketing the market and because the market is pretty well served by local media.

What do all these Communities Share?

 No Shopping Mall in any county where these stations are located.  No Best Buy Electronics stores in any of these communities.  Not One Single Starbuck’s – Not one!  Only One Foreign Car Dealer  More livestock than people  They grow more Watermelons than anywhere in Indiana or Illinois  4.3 Million Gallons of Oil a year pumped out of our Illinois counties  109,825,000 Bushels of Corn grown in our Indiana counties

 People travel relatively long distances to shop and be entertained*

*While we don’t have the big national stores, we still buy those products and services. We just have to travel farther, plan more, and spend more money per shopping trip. And since there is little penetration of Metro Media in our rural market, marketing with The Original Company, Inc. is a wise investment. A Few Select TOC Advertisers
