You, too, can make a big difference!
It is really hard to believe that in a few short weeks, the fall semester will begin. What happened to the summer?
The next several weeks are very important to CSI. There will be students trying to register for classes, and they may need your help to get into the right sections or to pay their tuition. Please be as helpful as possible. We need all the students that we can possibly enroll in the next several weeks. Enrollment is lagging a little bit from last year, so everybody should be onboard to enroll more students.
You talk to many different people each day. What if your neighbor asked you about enrolling in a class or your neighbor’s son is not sure what he wants to do now that he is out of high school? If he asked you “Should I get a job or should I go to college” what advice would you give him?
Certainly CSI is a good place to go to school. There are many reasons why CSI is a good choice. A few are listed here.
Do you know that we have an open door policy that allows anyone to attend school? Do you know that CSI does not charge a fee for application to attend college? Do you realize that CSI has the most affordable tuition and fees in the state? Do you know that the class size on our campus is smaller per teacher than on any other Idaho campus? Do you know that a student can get most of the required general education credits on-line at CSI?
Other reasons to attend CSI are:
There is ample parking with a short walk to any building on campus There are fewer lines at the Bookstore The dormitory and cafeteria are student friendly There are over 60 student clubs that meet frequently and hold social as well as educational value The college’s grounds and buildings are beautifully maintained and are safe There are classes during the morning, afternoon and evenings The library and SUB have free Internet services for anyone Students can attend athletic events free by using their ID card There are many musical and drama events to attend during the year
What can you add to the list of reasons why it is a good idea to enroll in classes at CSI? I would like to hear from you.
The above reasons also tell a story as to why it is a good idea to work at CSI. As PACE members, you are very aware of the advantages of employment here. I would like you to share that good news with each other and with your neighbors.
On September 11 (I hope this day is better than one 5 years ago) the Interim Committee on Community Colleges will hold a meeting on the CSI campus. It is important that our legislators hear our messages loud and clear, we are an excellent college for all of the right reasons. We want to maintain our local governance structure with our locally elected Board of Trustees. That is a must. Maybe that statement should be at the head of the list above. What do you think?
It is important for you as individuals and as employees of CSI to have information on why local governance is good for CSI. Stay tuned to more information, next month.
