Section 2-17-10(11) of the 1976 Code, as amended 30 by Act 248 of 1991, is further amended to read: 31 32 “(11) ‘Legislative caucus’ means: 33 (a) a committee of either house of the General Assembly 34 controlled by the caucus of a political party or a caucus based upon 35 racial, or ethnic affinity, or gender;, or on previous or current 36 honorable military service as a member of the Armed Forces of the 37 United States or of a reserve component of the Armed Forces of 38 the United States, the National Guard of South Carolina or another 39 state, or the State Guard of South Carolina or its equivalent in 40 another state, or length of service in the General Assembly; 41 (b) a party or group of either house of the General Assembly 42 based upon racial or ethnic affinity, or gender, previous or current

1 [3984] 1 1 honorable service as a member of the Armed Forces of the United 2 States or of a reserve component of the Armed Forces of the 3 United States, the National Guard of South Carolina or another 4 state, or the State Guard of South Carolina or its equivalent in 5 another state, or length of service in the General Assembly. 6 However, each house may establish only one committee for each 7 racial-, ethnic-, or gender- or service-based affinity.” 8 9 SECTION 2. Section 8-13-1300(21) of the 1976 Code, as last 10 amended by Act 248 of 1991, is further amended to read: 11 12 “(21) ‘Legislative caucus committee’ means: 13 (a) a committee of either house of the General Assembly 14 controlled by the caucus of a political party or a caucus based upon 15 racial, or ethnic affinity, or gender; ,or on previous or current 16 honorable military service as a member of the Armed Forces of the 17 United States or of a reserve component of the Armed Forces of 18 the United States, the National Guard of South Carolina or another 19 state, or the State Guard of South Carolina or its equivalent in 20 another state, or length of service in the General Assembly; 21 (b) a party or group of either house of the General Assembly 22 based upon racial or ethnic affinity, or gender, previous or current 23 honorable military service as a member of the Armed Forces of the 24 United States or of a reserve component of the Armed Forces of 25 the United States, the National Guard of South Carolina or another 26 state, or the State Guard of South Carolina or its equivalent in 27 another state, or length of service in the General Assembly. 28 However, each house may establish only one committee for each 29 racial-, ethnic-, or gender- or service-based affinity.” 30 31 SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the 32 Governor. 33 ----XX---- 34
