Sun., Jan. 1 – Happy New Year!

Thurs., Jan. 5 - STPS Monthly Meeting. 7PM-9PM. STPS’s next meeting will be held in the lower conference room of Southampton Town Hall, 116 Hampton Road. All are welcome! For further information: 631-726-7503.

Sat., Jan. 7 - Good Ground Park Trail Scouting. 10AM-11:30AM. Meet at the main gate on Squiretown Road, Hampton Bays. This passive recreational park complete with amphitheater sits on 36 acres. Join Deputy Supervisor, Frank Zappone and the STPS Board on this trail planning adventure. For more information call Doreen Johnston, 516-994-5947.

Two Event Sunday Sun., Jan. 8 - Stony Hill. 10AM-Noon. Meet at parking area on Red Dirt Road just east of Accabonac Road, East Hampton. Fast paced 3- 4 miles from the rolling topography of Stony Hill to the breathtaking grasslands in Amagansett. Optional post hike bonus: Walk the Nancy Kane trail (<1 mile), or drive to a brief tour of Green River Cemetery in Springs, the final home for art icons Jackson Pollack, Lee Krasner and Frank O'Hara among others. Sun., Jan. 8 - Whiskey Hill. 10:00AM-11:00AM Meet on Mill Path off Lopers Path (heading east), Bridgehampton. Moderately-paced, 1.7 mile hike with ocean views from top of moraine with kettlehole ponds and an enormous glacial erratic along the way. Leader: Jean Dodds, 631-599-2391.

Sat., Jan. 14 – Long Pond Greenbelt North. 1PM-3PM. Meet at the Long Pond Greenbelt Nature Center, 1061 Bridgehampton/Sag Harbor Turnpike (east side, north of Scuttlehole Road) for a moderately-paced 3.5 mile hike through oak/hickory forest with beautiful pond views. Two Event Sunday Sun., Jan. 15 – Flanders Search for the Fire Tower Historic Plaque. 10AM-12:30PM. Meet at the kiosk on Spinney Road on the south side of CR24 just east of Birch Creek for an unusual moderately-paced 3.5 hike to find the plaque marking the site of the fire tower removed in 1948. Sun, Jan., 15 - Narrow Lane Cleanup. 8AM-9AM. Help STPS clean up litter from our adopted road. Meet on Narrow Lane, and east corner of Norris Lane. Bring gloves. Dai Dayton, 631-745-0689.

Two Event Saturday Sat., Jan. 21 – Discussion in Nature’s Salon. 10AM-12:30. Meet at Kurt Billing Preserve on Sebonac Road, Southampton. How to build a trail that is sustainable, esthetically pleasing and easy to walk. Leader: Ken Kindler, 631-563-8283 or [email protected]

Sat., Jan. 21 - Horses on Trails (HOT) Sagaponack Beach Ride (weather permitting). Bring your own horse and helmet. STPS/HOT membership required due to insurance. It’s easy to join on the day of the ride! Please contact Leslie Lowery, 631-603-8661 for reservations.

Sun., Jan. 22 – Manorville Hills County Park. 10AM-2PM. Meet at the park trailhead on Route 111. Moderately-paced 8-mile hike. West to east, Manorville Hills offers the longest expanse of roadless land on Long Island. True to its name, there are a lot of hills! Bring water and lunch. Bad weather cancels. Sat., Jan. 28 - Long Pond Greenbelt. 1PM-3PM. Meet at the Mashashimuet parking area on Sag Harbor/Bridgehampton Tpk. near the Greenbelt kiosk which is about 100 yards south of the intersection with Brick Kiln Road. Moderately-paced 3 1/2 mile hike from Otter Pond to Poxabogue County Park. The walk will go along Long Pond, view Little Long Pond, past Deer Drink, then Crooked Pond and on to the Poxabogue Ponds. Then car pool back to Sag Harbor. Leader: Mark Potter 631-725-0450.

Sun., Jan. 29 - Clam Island County Park. 10AM-11AM- Meet at end of Noyack Bay Lane, Sag Harbor. Moderately-paced 2 mile beach hike with bay views of Jessup’s Neck. Leader: Doreen Johnston, 516-994-5947.
