Notes from the meeting held Wednesday 21st May 2008 at St.Aidan’s on the Hill. Commencing 7.30p.m. Present:, Pete Matcham (chair), Grant Roberts, Lisa O’Leary, Mel Galletly, Caroline Dunbar. Apologies: Margaret Cousins. Welcome: to everyone from Pete. Notes: for 19th March 2008 accepted. Pete/Mel
Matters Arising: Central and Western Ward Community Committee: Pete Matcham had not been selected – that position went to Chris Milne. Kowhai Tree: Mel reported he had watered the commemorative kowhai tree again. There is now green growth visible in the top branches. Only time will tell if it is a survivor. 50th Anniversary: Aim for these items to be finished by May 2008. (Nine days to go!!) Interpretation signs: Pete is still working on these. Plaques: Mel gave completed plaques of William Golder’s cottage, Original Normandale School, and the Hutt to Pauatahanui coach road horse trough, to Pete who is now sourcing suitably priced effective glue. Kauri Tree: Walking pamphlet: Not finished yet. Special Issue of the Normandale times: Michael Kopp has finally given a Cd of 33 photos to Mel. Mel will commence preparation of the special issue. HCC are installing a new server for the portal. Maungaraki Kiwibank ATM. Since launch in July 2007, in the vicinity of 17,950 transactions have been processed, averaging 1,797 per month. By-laws: Pete mentioned the two by-laws that were considered before the Policy and Strategy committee of HCC last month. They are refinements on existing by-laws. Pete attended the meeting on 25th April and presented papers that had been circulated by email to our committee. a) Fire prevention. There were 8 submissions. The burning of just diseased plants would be too hard to police. The by-law was to prevent smoke in urban areas. The Fire Dept. was supported. b) new restrictions re keeping of hens, roosters, goats etc. And the setting of traps. (Though rats and mice traps are exempt.) It was agreed goats could be kept with a permit. Agreed to find more suitable wording re traps. Appreciation of Pete’s submission. (Pete could you print off the final copies of the submissions to go with the meeting notes. Thanks) Correspondence: In: and Out: Letter of thanks from Regional council for submission on the Regional Plan. Letter of thanks for submissions on the by-laws. Letter re pony club lease in Queen Elizabeth Park, Paekakariki. Letter from Bruce Hodgkins of Strategy & Policy H.C.C. re Land Review Projects Committee – Phase 1 proposals. Regional council re Waitangarua Farm classified as Reserve. Agenda and minutes of HCC Strategy and Policy committee; HCC re Draft Annual Plan; Notification of last Bus tour of Korokoro HCC re Central West Community Councillors. Margaret Cousins is on this committee. Emails from Sandra with thanks for letters and visits on the death of her husband , Norm. Email from Margaret Cousins (May 19th) re speaker for AGM. Suggested Claire Benge who lives in Maungaraki and is the new Eco Design Adviser for Wellington city Council. Also mentioned is the “Meet the candidates’ meeting which it will be our turn to host.
Finance: Grant presented a verbal Report. Bank Statement at 1st May 2008 = $5,716. 13c.
Income from Subscriptions & Advertising. $913. Reimbursed from HCC 50th anniversary allocation. Account payable: $219.37 to Trophy House for plaques. Agreed we pay this then Grant will claim from the HCC under the 50th Anniversary claims. Grant/Pete The Heritage Funding Scheme offer for the printing of the 50th Anniversary special booklet expired the day of our meeting. Mel subsequently contacted Candy Murison at community development Hutt City council. and organised an extension for filing the accountability form for our $1,615 grant from May 21 2008 to December 31st 2008. The verbal report was accepted. Grant/Pete
Land Revue process: Phase 2 – Otonga School - Special purpose Reserve where reservoir is. Singers Road: Property Dev., has said ‘leave where ‘tis” Poto Road: David Kincaid is interested. Pete will try to organise a meeting of interested residents for next week. A leaflet drop will definitely be needed to advise people in time. Pete will prepare and copy. And put notices on our Notice boards. We all offered to help deliver. We appose the sale of the land from a visual, and ecological point of view.
AGM. Shock! Horrors! Mid-winter again! Advertise in the June Normandale Times for July 16th (or maybe the 23rd if that suits Claire Benge better). It would be good if the financial books could be audited. Perhaps Tay Wilson will do this if Grant asks. Thank you, Grant.
