CHANGES
Sirsi Unicorn
During the past year, the Department has started to use Java Workflows. The change in software led to some initial challenges, which now seem to be revolved.
Staffing The past year has seen some personnel changes, which are detailed below.
Support
The department operated with a full contingent of full-time staff during most of the year. Cristina Molinari, Principal Library Assistant, was out on sick leave during the
2 late summer and early Fall. With the retirement of Lois Purcell, June 30, 2007, there is currently a vacancy for a Technical Library Assistant.
Librarian
Chung Lone continued as acting head of the Multi-Media Resources Department. She continues to catalog music and media. The consolidation of the cataloging and processing of media materials within the media department has worked out quite well. At the same time, Kathleen Hughes and Su Hu continued to help out with the situation in the Acquisitions Dept. Happily, a successful second search was performed and resulted in the promotion of Su Hu to Head of Collection Development and Acquisitions in April, 2007.
Reference Duties
Mei Ling Chow continued to work at the reference desk on a regular schedule of two hours a week during the Fall and Spring semesters. In addition, Su Hu joined the reference schedule of two hours per week in Fall 2006.
Microform Sets
Continuing the initiative from last year, bibliographic records were purchased from OCLC and loaded into the Library’s catalog. Records were obtained for the Library of English Literature (LEL), the Human Relations Area Files, and part of our holdings in the Health, Physical Education and Recreation MA theses. At this point, only the remaining holdings of the Health, Physical Education and Recreation theses require records.
3 II. OBJECTIVES
Integrate the use of the Java interface of Sirsi Workflows into departmental procedures, taking full advantage of the various options offered in the Cataloging module. Add the MSU Buildings to the Library’s digital archives. Continue to participate in the Montclarion Digitization Project. Complete the revision of the departmental Procedures Manual.
