Application to Squat a Room/Apartment 2015-2016

If you would like to remain in the same room or apartment as you are right now, you may “squat” your room from this year to next. If you choose to take advantage of this opportunity, you will not need to use your lottery number or participate in Room Selection. You will be done as soon as this form is approved! This form is due by 4:30p, Monday, March 2. It can be turned in to the front desk of Student Development.

The main stipulation is that your occupancy must remain similar or the same. Here are the standards for squatting a room or apartment from one year to the next:

1) If you live in a room/apartment with a double occupancy, the SAME two people must squat the room. 2) If you live in a room/apartment with triple occupancy, two of the same people must squat, and pull in a third person to complete this application. 3) If you live in a room/apartment with quadruple occupancy, three of the same people must squat, and pull in a fourth person to complete this application. 4) Current residents of Barker or Kresge halls, those living with CAs, or residents of college-owned Greek or theme houses may not squat their room from one year to the next.

The person pulled into the application can be any current full-time Simpson student who is eligible to live in that area based on other room selection guidelines. Applications must be complete when turned in (ex. If applying for a 4-person apartment there must be 4 names on the application.) Incomplete, invalid or fraudulent applications will not be accepted. Signatures are required in all cases except for students currently studying abroad. Signatures represent intent to live on campus and constitute a housing agreement for the following year. Students going abroad Fall Semester cannot be on any application. Students currently on disciplinary probation are not eligible to apply for apartments. Students not registered full-time at the end of Spring Semester may have their assigned housing assignment revoked.

In the unlikely case that no current resident in the squatted room/apartment actually went through room selection to select that space, the squatting application can be denied. Also, the application may be denied for other circumstances on an individual basis, such as issues relating to student conduct.
