COMMUNION: A PICTURE OF JESUS’ MINISTRY IN THE BELIEVER’S LIFE IN REGARDS TO SIN

INTRODUCTION – Communion, why do we practice it? What does it mean? Why do we wash feet? How often are we to have Communion? Who should participate? And the questions go on and on. Let’s look at the Word of God and find the answers.

 Communion is an ordinance. An ordinance is:

 Beware of the two extremes:

 There are three aspects to the ordinance of Communion:

 An overview.

 All three parts must be done together or we have an imperfect picture of .

1. Bread and Cup: A picture of how Jesus cared for the guilt and penalty of our sin on the (1 Corinthians 11:23- 26).

A. Why did Jesus use the bread and cup to teach us this ?

B. What truth do we learn from eating the bread and drinking the cup? C. Are we really supposed to eat the bread and drink the cup as part of the today?

2. Feetwashing: A picture of how Jesus cleanses us from sin in our p /d life (John 13:1-17).

A. Why did Jesus pick the feet to be ?

B. What truth do we learn from washing each other’s feet?

C. Are we really supposed to wash feet in the today?

3. Love Feast: A picture of how Jesus will separate us from sin eternally in the (Revelation 19:7-9).

A. Why did Jesus pick a to teach us this truth?

B. What truth do we learn from eating a meal together?

C. Are we really supposed to eat a meal like this together today and see it as part of ?

CONCLUSION – The Scriptures are clear as to what we are to do. But, we must be obedient to the Scriptures. Is the work of Jesus in the past, present and future really important to you?
