Meeting Minutes MECTA Captain’s Meeting 2/25/15 - UNUM, 5:30 PM

In attendance: Shelby Kaplan - UNUM Dan Frey – OA Lyndee Whitten – IDEXX (on the phone) Matt Green – City of South Portland (on the phone)

I. Team Recruitment Update a. Meeting called to order at 5:35pm. b. Dan – a friend of one of his team members attended a meet and had a lot of fun, might want to start a team at New England Cancer Specialist. c. Shelby – has contact with a teacher in Auburn, Jaime Theriault. Might join an existing team, or form a team with other companies. d. Matt still talking to Hannaford, WEX. e. Dan – has a contact with State of Maine. There’s interest, but they are not sure of time commitment.

II. Fundraising update a. UNUM trying to put together a bowl-a-thon the first week of April, open to all MECTA members and participants. Donors make a pledge for how many pins knocked down, or make a flat donation. Easy Day or Bayside. Shelby working to finalize date and location. b. The $5 per person season fee will help a lot this year. c. Steve hasn’t heard back from Easy Day about a fundraising event at their facility. d. May 31 Thrower’s meeting and 5K still on. e. Still planning on another 50-50 at Saturday meets.

III. Promoting MECTA a. Facebook – creating an event for each meet, for individuals to share on FB. Lyndee to take this on this season. b. Pre-season: Shelby wrote to WCSH about a 207 … maybe get a segment to talk about MECTA and explain what we do. c. Flyers i. Would need to check with race directors about including an ad in the runner’s packet. ii. Post at Fleet Feet, fitness centers? d. Advertise on Cool Running or RunningintheUSA? Add our events to their race calendars, or post 5K results. Would they be willing to link to our website for results? e. Scarborough newspaper advertises upcoming races, Dan to look into this. IV. Regional Meet a. Getting teams: i. Sarah Marble (previous UNUM employee) works for a large company in MA, might try to put a team together for Regionals. ii. Shelby forwarded info to her contact with Booz Allen Hamilton to get a team to come up from DC. iii. GE and AT&T are very interested in joining in. b. Advertising: i. FB: create an event on the MECTA FB group, so our members can share. ii. Targeting companies that we’ve worked with in the past. c. What should be charge these non-MECTA teams? i. Currently at $100. Tom fears if we raise this number, if might not seem so attractive. ii. Shelby motion to keep the fee at $100 for the upcoming Regional Meet. 1. Seconded by Dan. 2. 3 in favor, 1 abstain.
