The Class of 2013

Erin Brown is graduating from Saint Mary's College with a degree in music education, and hopes to put that to good use in the upcoming school year teaching high school orchestra.

Steven Christopher graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology, majoring in Physics with minors in Music and Mathematics, then came to Notre Dame for the Master's in Patent Law program. During his time here, one of the most rewarding things he has done has been playing Bassoon in the Notre Dame Orchestra. He will be moving to Washington, D.C. to start his career as a patent agent at Sughrue Mion.

Greg Goodman is a chemical engineer from Pittsburgh. Next year he will be working full time for ExxonMobil as a Process Engineer in Houston, Texas. This summer will be spent working on his accent, buying cowboy boots, and learning how to honky-tonk.

Born in Long Island in January of 1991, Audrey Hayes created a rudimentary violin using a rutabaga, string, and a chicken bone, which immediately precipitated the collapse of the Soviet Union. Crippled by apathy due to her existentialist views, Ms. Hayes is [please insert graduation plans here] next year.

Nick Huryk is a political science and pre-med major from Muskegon, MI. He has played the viola in NDSO for four years and has been honored to serve as its vice president for the past year. Aside from orchestra, he has worked as a member of the guest services department at DPAC, served as vice president of Operation Smile ND, and volunteered at the Sr. Maura Brannick Health Center in South Bend. While his plans for the future are uncertain, he is certain that he will miss the best group of musicians he's ever played with (especially the violas and their hyper-productive sectionals).

Following graduation, Trenton Jackson plans to move out to New Jersey and hope to find work with a civil engineering firm. The destruction from Hurricane Sandy remains, yet the efforts of philanthropists and professionals alike will continue to restore and improve the infrastructure of the Jersey Shore.

Edward Jacobson is a music history major who will be entering the Ph.D. program in Music History & Literature at UC Berkeley this fall.

Kate Johnson will be at Notre Dame an extra semester to complete her degree in Accounting and Violin Performance and will enter a Master of Science in Accountancy program starting in January of 2014. Thank you to Dan Stowe for making this symphony more than an orchestra, but a family.

Julia Kohn is a Biology major from Wilmette, IL. When not living in her research lab, she volunteers with the Library Advisory Board and used to fence on Notre Dame’s varsity team. Although her plans are not finalized, she hopes to work as a clinical research assistant for the next two years before applying to medical school. She has loved playing viola in the NDSO for the past four years and will miss her friends and Viola Section Bonding Time.

Nathan Lin is off to Tacoma, WA next year to work with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps Northwest. He will be working at a L'arche community, helping to supervise farm work, the products of which support the community members. The following year he will be attending medical school, most likely in Chicago (so give him a call if you're in town!). He is really grateful to have had orchestra be a big part of his college experience. It has been such a joy making music with everyone, and he will certainly miss it.

Stephanie Maciuba is a biochemistry major from Skokie, IL. She has played in NDSO for all four of her years at Notre Dame, and is a proud member of the viola section. Outside of orchestra, she participates in several clubs and enjoys spending time with friends. Most of her free time was spent doing research on the rare disease Niemann-Pick Type C. In the fall she will enter the Ph.D. program in biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. During blustery Wisconsin winters, while inevitably regretting her decision to not attend graduate school in a warmer climate, she hopes the great memories of NDSO and ND will warm her heart.

Tom Mitchell is a senior Finance and Economics major from Wheeling, West Virginia. He lives in St. Edward's Hall. His musical involvement at Notre Dame includes orchestra, marching band, concert band, and a PEMCO pit orchestra. He's thankful for the opportunity to play this concert for you alongside his talented classmates; he's also grateful for Dan Stowe's guiding musicianship. Next year, he will work at Bank of America Merrill Lynch as a Global Treasury Solutions Analyst in Chicago, IL.

Javier Pineda will begin Ph.D. studies in Chemical Biology at Harvard University in the fall.

After graduation, Pat Revord intends to work in Washington, DC in the burgeoning field of sustainability consulting.

Next year Angela Ryck will be entering the for a Master of Public Health program at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Kevin Shetler is graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Beginning in the fall, he will be pursuing his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. After graduation, this fall Kyle Sladek will enter seminary for the Catholic Diocese of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and begin priestly formation at Mundelein Seminary at the University of St. Mary of the Lake in Mundelein, Illinois.

Chris Stutts will be earning her Masters in Music Education at Teachers College, Columbia University next year.

Diana Yu is largely unsure of what life has in store for her—or perhaps what she has in store for her life. But for now, she plans to work at an architecture office in Winchester, UK where she will enjoy the peaceful countryside and drink many cups of tea.

We are grateful for the contributions of the Class of 2013 to the musical life of Notre Dame, and wish them every success in their future endeavors.
