1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A SENATE RESOLUTION 10 11 TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE 12 MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE UPON THE 13 PASSING OF JOE B. THOMPSON OF CHARLESTON 14 COUNTY, AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY 15 TO HIS LOVING FAMILY AND HIS MANY FRIENDS. 16 17 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate were 18 saddened to learn of the death of Joe B. Thompson at the age of 19 seventythree on Sunday, February 15, 2015; and 20 21 Whereas, born on June 25, 1941, and raised in Charleston, he 22 graduated from BondsWilson High School in 1962, where he led 23 the BondsWilson marching band as drum major and also played 24 the trumpet; and 25 26 Whereas, Mr. Thompson was married to Dorothy Thompson for 27 thirty years until her death. Over thirteen years ago, he was 28 blessed with the love of his second wife, Andrea Seymore- 29 Thompson; and 30 31 Whereas, he worked for South Carolina Electric and Gas Company 32 bus transportation for twentyfive years before retiring; and 33 34 Whereas, a faithful member of New Bethel Reformed Episcopal 35 Church, Mr. Thompson served on various committees and enjoyed 36 serving the Lord; and 37 38 Whereas, as a Shriner, he was a member of Arabian Temple #139 39 from his youth, having served in many capacities, including as past 40 potentate. Mr. Thompson also served as president for the 41 Dorchester Waylyn Neighborhood Association for many years; 42 and

[471] 1 1 2 Whereas, he loved young people and also loved helping seniors, 3 and he was concerned for the safety and wellbeing of his 4 neighbors, often bringing food to those in need; and 5 6 Whereas, he was blessed with four fine children: Denetra Smiley; 7 Tanya Thomas; James E. Seymore, Jr.; and Terrence G. Seymore. 8 He enjoyed the affection of two adoring grandchildren and five 9 greatgrandchildren; and 10 11 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are grateful 12 for the life and legacy of Joe B. Thompson and for the example of 13 sacrifice and kindness he set for all who knew him. Now, 14 therefore, 15 16 Be it resolved by the Senate: 17 18 That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, 19 express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Joe B. 20 Thompson of Charleston County, and extend their deepest 21 sympathy to his loving family and his many friends. 22 23 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 24 the family of Joe B.
