What will we cover this year?

Q1: Q2: 2. Linear Motion 4. Newton’s First Law of Motion – Inertia: Historical Perspective on Motion, 3. Projectile Motion Concept of Mass – A measure of Inertia, Net Force, Vector Addition of Forces. 5. Newton’s Second law of Motion – Force and Acceleration: Force as cause of motion, Friction, Falling and air resistance. 6. Newton’s Third Law of Motion – Action and Reaction: Forces and Interactions. 7. Momentum: Impulse and Momentum, Conservation of momentum and Collisions 8. Energy: Work, Power, Potential and Kinetic Energy, Conservation of Energy, Efficiency of machines. 9. Circular Motion: Rotation and Revolution, Centripetal and Centrifugal forces, Simulated Gravity. 12. Universal Gravitation: Newton’s Law of Gravitation

Q3: Q4: 25. Vibrations and Waves 34. Electric Current: Charge, Flow of charge, Voltage and Resistance, Ohm's 26. Sound Law, D.C and A.C, Electrons 32. Electrostatics: Electrical Forces 35. Electric Circuits: Series and Parallel Circuit, Compound Circuits and Charges, Coulomb's Law, 37. Electromagnetic Induction: Faraday’s Law, Generators and Alternating Conductors and Insulators, Current, Motors and Transformers, Induction of Electric and Magnetic Fields Induction and Electromagnetic Radiation. 33. Electric Fields and Potential: 36. Magnetism: Magnetic Poles, Fields and Domains, Electric Currents on Electric Fields and Field Lines, moving charges, Magnetic forces on current carrying wires, Meters to Motors, Electric Shielding and Potential The Earth's magnetic field Energy, Van de Graff Generator. 27. Light: E.M Wave, Optics 28. Color 29. Light: Reflection & Refraction 30. Lenses & Mirrors: Ray Tracing & Image Formation Grading: Assignments will be categorized as either formative or summative.

Formative assignments account for 10% of your quarter grade and include things designed to introduce you to new material. Examples may include classroom/homework worksheets including lab worksheets, exit tickets, and parts of projects. Summative assignments account for 90% of your quarter grade. Examples of summative assignments include lab quizzes, quizzes, tests, and parts of projects.

Textbook: You will receive a textbook to keep at home and will use a class set. Other assignments will be distributed during class and will be available online.

Assignments: During each unit there will be small quizzes covering information presented in the previous classes. Physics is a lab class and there will be multiple labs for each unit. A lab summary or a quiz may follow each lab.

Homework: Homework will not be accepted late (unless due to absence). The points will depend on the assignment, and will change accordingly.

Retake Policy: Students are allowed to retake two chapter tests per quarter. The retake grade replaces the original grade. Students need to do test corrections on the original test to be eligible for the retake. No retakes are given on any Quizzes or Lab Quizzes. The retake must be taken within one week of receiving the original graded test.

Absences: There is a large amount of material covered each day. If you are sick and out of school, it is your responsibility to see me for the make-up work and turn it in by the due date. It will not be accepted any later. If you choose not to make up your work, then you can expect a zero on those assignments.

Tardiness: Don’t be tardy. Follow the PFHS Policy.

Extra Help: If you would like extra help, please see any of us in advance so we can agree on a specific time and date.

Supplies: Three ring binders with divider tabs are strongly recommended but folders will also do. Paper, Pencils, Calculator, Agenda, and a box of tissues

Honor Code: The PFHS Honor Code is enforced in this class.
