EXPLANATION OF GRAPHICAL SYMBOLS

The lightning flash with arrowhead symbol, within an equilateral triangle, is intended to alert the user to the presence of “dangerous voltage”. The exclamation point within an equilateral triangle is intended to alert the user to the presence of important operating and maintenance (servicing) instruction in the literature accompanying the product.

PRECAUTIONS

Safety

Should any liquid or solid object fall into the cabinet, unplug the unit and have it checked by the qualified personnel before operating it any further. Unplug the unit from the wall outlet if it is not going to be used for several days or more. To disconnect the cord, pull it out of the plug. Never pull the cord itself. Allow adequate air circulation to prevent internal heat build-up. Do not place the unit on surfaces (rugs, blankets, etc) or near materials (curtains, draperies) that may block the ventilation holes. Height and vertical linearity controls located at the rear panel are for special adjustments by qualified personnel only.

Installation

Do not install the unit in an extremely hot or humid place or in a place subject to excessive dust or mechanical vibration. This unit is not designed to be waterproof. Exposure to rain or water may damage the unit.

Cleaning

Clean the unit with a slightly damp soft cloth. Use a mild household detergent. Never use strong solvents such as thinner or benzene as they might damage the finish of the unit. Retain the original carton and packing materials for safe transport of this unit in the future.

Cleaning

Unplug video monitor or equipment from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning.

Attachments

Do not use attachments not recommended by the video monitor or equipment manufacturer as they may result in the risk of fire, electric shock or injury to persons.

Water and moisture

Do not use video monitor or equipment near water – for example, near a bathtub, washbowl, kitchen sink, laundry tub, in a wet basement, or near a swimming pool, or the like.

Accessories

Do not place video monitor or equipment on an unstable cart, stand or table. The video monitor or equipment may fall, causing serious injury to a child or adult and serious damage to the equipment. Wall or shelf mounting should follow the manufacturer’s instructions, and should use a mounting kit approved by the manufacturer; Video monitor or equipment and cart combinations should be moved with care; Quick stops, excessive force, and uneven surfaces may cause the equipment and cart combination to overturn.

Ventilation

Slots and openings in the cabinet and the back or bottom are provided for ventilation, and to ensure reliable operation of the video monitor or equipment and to protect it from overheating. These openings must not be blocked or covered. The openings should never be blocked by placing the video monitor or equipment on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface. Video monitor or equipment should never be placed near or over a radiator or heat register. Video monitor or equipment receiver should not be placed in a built-in installation such as a bookcase unless proper ventilation is provided.

Power sources

Video monitor or equipment should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of the type of power supplied to your home, consult your video monitor or equipment dealer or local power company. For video monitor or equipment designed to operate from battery power refer to the operating instructions.

Grounding or polarisation

This video monitor or equipment is provided with a polarised alternating current line plug (a plug having one blade wider than the other). This plug will fit into the power outlet only one way. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the plug fully into the outlet, try reversing the plug. If the plug should still fail to fit, contact your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarised plug.

2 Power cords

Do not allow anything to rest on the power cord. Do not locate video monitor or equipment where the cord will be abused by persons walking on it.

Heed warnings Follow all instructions marked on the video monitor or equipment.

Lightning

For added protection for video monitor and equipment during a lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet and disconnect the antenna or cable system. This will prevent damage to the video product due to lightning and power-line surges.

Overloading Do not overload wall outlets and extension cords as this can result in a risk of fire or electric shock.

Object and liquid entry

Never push objects of any kind into video monitor or equipment through openings as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short-out parts that could result in a fire or electric shock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the product.

Servicing

Do not attempt to service video monitor or equipment yourself as opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.

Damage requiring service

Unplug video monitor or equipment from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions.

 When the power supply cord or the plug has been damaged.  If liquid has spilled, or objects have fallen into the video product.  If the video product has been exposed to rain or water.  If the video product does not operate normally by following the operating instructions, adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating instructions as an improper adjustment of other controls may result in damage and will often require extensive work by a qualified technician to restore the video product to its normal operation.  If the video product has been dropped, or the cabinet damaged.  When the video product exhibits a distinct change in performance, this indicates a need of service.

Replacements parts

When replacement parts are required, be sure that the service technician has used replacement parts specified by the manufacturer or that have the same characteristics as the original part. Unauthorised substitutions may result in fire, electric shock or other hazards.

Safety check

Upon completion of any service or repairs to this video product, ask the service technician to perform safety checks to determine that the video product is in proper operating condition.

3 INSTALLATION

BASIC SYSTEM INSTALLATION

Perform the following steps to install the observation system.

SCHEMA

A. Unpack all components of the system from the packing material. B. Identify all of the following pieces :  Observation monitor  Camera  60 feet camera cable  Camera stand  Mounting accessory

C. Place the observation monitor in the required position. D. Select an appropriate location for the camera. E. Affix the camera stand to the selected site. F. Screw HOLDER to wall or ceiling which you want to install camera. Locate a wall stud or ceiling joist and bracket referring to figure. G. Connect one end of the cable into the "MONITOR" port on the rear of the camera. H. Plug the other end of the cable into one of the camera ports (CA1~CA4) on the monitor. I. Repeat step D. through H. for additional cameras. J. Plug power cord of the monitor into a power outlet. K. Press the POWER switch on the front of the monitor.

INSTALLATION WITH NORMAL OR TIME LAPSE VCR

The observation system can be installed with a normal VCR or a time lapse recorder. Perform the following steps after the installation of the observation system.

A. Install the observation system. B. Place the recorder in a convenient location. C. Turn off "MAIN POWER" switch on the observation system. D. Plug the VCR cable into "AUDIO IN", "AUDIO OUT", "VIDEO IN", "VIDEO OUT" on the rear of the monitor. E. Connect "AUDIO IN" of the monitor into "AUDIO OUT" on the VCR. "AUDIO OUT" of the monitor into "AUDIO IN" on the VCR. "VIDEO IN" of the monitor into "VIDEO OUT" on the VCR. "VIDEO OUT" of the monitor into "VIDEO IN" on the VCR.

F. Plug the power cord of the recorder. G. Turn on "POWER" switch for the observation system. H. Program the recorder using the VCR instructions manual (on screen programmable). I. Start RECORD/PLAY process using the instructions manual.

4 HOW TO OBTAIN FACTORY SERVICE

 Original purchaser must fill out a warranty card and mail to Polestar Inc. With model number, serial number, date of purchase and receipt of purchase or photocopied receipt.  Please pack the unit carefully and safely and send it prepaid by insured parcel post to the warrantor at 14946 shoemaker avenue, unit B Santa Fe springs.  If it turns out to be mishandled by the user one the way due to careless packing or handling, the warrantor is not able to afford to compensate for the damage and the cost. For accurate treatment, it would be very helpful if you include a note explaining and describing, how the unit is defective.  If the unit is returned within the warranty period, please include the receipt of the purchase or photocopied receipt as a proof of purchase and a check for $19.00 to cover the costs of return postage and handling. If the unit is out of warranty, please include a check for $39.00 to cover the cost of basic repair and handling charge. If the required repair costs more than allotted amount due to serious damage, an estimated repair bill will be sent for advance approval.  Polestar will repair or replace and return to owner all the units under this limited warranty only if it is verified with the receipt or photocopied receipt of purchase as a proof of purchase.

5 HOW TO RECORD THE MONITOR INTO YOUR VCR

General set-up

Please plug video and audio cable (RCA cable) into your VCR (from video and audio output of monitor to video and audio input of VCR)

When you use time lapse VCR (commercial VCR)

Please simply follow general set-up procedure and you will be able to record into your time lapse VCR (which is preset for recording security monitor-standard video signal).

WHEN YOU USE HOME VCR

FYI home VCR preset for recording TV signal (RF signal) without adjusting anything when releasing from factory. However, your home VCR is capable of recording the observation monitor which is producing standard video signal. Before recording, please find out "A/V" channel (AUDIO AND VIDEO CHANNEL) on your home VCR instead of channel 3 or 4. It will indicate "A/V" on your home VCR display instead of 3 or 4, most of VCR have control button on VCR remote control unit to activate "A/V" channel.

For example, some manufacturers have "LINE" button on VCR remote control to activate "A/V" channel. If you cannot find the "A/V" channel, please call your manufacturer of your home VCR and ask this question to activate "A/V" channel.

6 OPERATION OF THE OBSERVATION SYSTEM

GENERAL FEATURES

The system includes the following operating features :  Four position sequential switcher built-in  Two way audio capability  VCR recording and playing back (on screen programmable)

OBSERVATION MONITOR OPERATION

Sequential switcher operation

The system sets up in AUTO mode when power is witched on adjustable 160~secondes, the internal sequential switcher will allow each camera to switch on automatically or to fix on a selected camera. The system automatically skips camera ports which are not used/connected.

 Press any camera channel button (CA1~CA4) on the front of the monitor to select specific cameras.  To select cameras which an operator wishes to view on the monitor, press AUTO button. The system skips the camera channel which is not selected; located ADD position.

Two way intercom

The system is equipped with two way intercom as standard.

 To use intercom function, a camera which the operator wants to talk, shall be selected.  The system sets up in listening mode, the operator always receives audio from the camera.  To talk back to the camera from the monitor, speak while pressing TALK button. When the operator lets go of this button, the system returns to listening mode.

Audio function of the camera switch to the external intercom and operation is same as above.

VCR recording and play

The system is equipped with VCR input/output ports for recording and playing back. On screen programming feature allows set up of VCR function. To record from the system, press RECORD button on the VCR. To play back from the system, press PLAY button on the VCR.  Recording/Playing back refer to VCR instructions.

OBSERVATION CAMERA OPERATION

"CS" or "C" mount lens support (Option)

The system is supplied with C mount lens from the factory. But the system can be equipped to operate with CS mount lens as well as C mount lens.

7 CONNECTORS AND CONTROLS

OBSERVATION MONITOR

The location of connection and controls for the connection for the observation monitor are as follows.

A. TALK This button is for talking to a camera, the camera should be selected before using this button. B. VCR C. AUTO (Press CA140~for manual selection) This button is used to set up the system up to sequential mode. D. CA140~4 (Camera buttons) These buttons are used to manually select a camera to be displayed on the screen. E. BRT This control is used to adjust the brightness of the monitor picture. F. CONT This control is used to adjust the contrast of the monitor picture. G. COLOR This control is used to adjust the level of the colour. H. TIME This control is used to adjust the dwell time from 1 to 30 seconds. I. VOL This control is used to adjust the sound volume. J. POWER This switcher turns only the monitor ON/OFF without affecting the switching. K. MIC High sensitive microphone. L. SPEAKER High sensitive speaker.
