Political Science Colloquium Police violence in Honolulu

Please join members of the Political Science Department, the Women's Studies Department, and the Hawai'i state legislature for a panel discussion of police violence and police reform in Honolulu. While in mainland communities, violence by police against community members has been largely understood in racial terms, in Honolulu, the gender and sexual dimensions of police violence have been highly visible. Also, the role of disabilities in violent local police- civilian encounters is significant. Efforts to reform police practices and improve relations between police and local communities have been spurred by these patterns of violence. Please join us to discuss these problems and consider proposed solutions.

Panelists include: Senator Will Espero, Representative Linda Ichiyama, Women's Studies' Professor Meda Chesney Lind, and Political Science graduate student Aaron Hunger.
