CCleaner Lab: Using CCleaner to Clean a USB Drive
This lab will clean a USB drive of ALL files (including hidden and deleted) so that the USB drive can be used to hold digital evidence.
1. Connect your USB drive to the proper USB port
2. Navigate to Windows Explorer and find the USB drive (typically Drive E: )
3. Download and install CCleaner from the Passouts folder (P:\\Davis\Forensics Tools\ CCleaner.exe)
4. Accept all of the defaults to install the CCleaner software
5. If CCleaner does not start, go to your Desktop and click on the Clean My Computer shortcut
6. At the CCleaner startup screen, select the Tools icon on the left of the screen
7. Click on the Drive Wiper option on the bottom left
8. Under the Wipe option, choose Entire Drive (All data will be erased)
9. Under the Security option, choose Advanced Overwrite (3 passes)
10. Under the Drives option, choose MEMOREX FLASHDISC (E: ) (or specific name of USB drive)
11. Click Wipe
12. When wipe operation completes, you will have a CLEAN USB drive that is ready to hold digital evidence
