Current Scientist Presentation Project Did you know that scientists like Newton and Einstein exist today? You didn’t, well know is your chance to learn about the current (living) scientists that are working in various fields to make your and my life better. This assignment will challenge your research, editing, and presentation skills; as you will be asked to create a Google Slide show highlighting a current living scientist. Your scientist should be studying the fields we learned this year (Geology, Meteorology, Oceanography & Astronomy). Some examples are (geologist, seismologist, volcanologist, meteorologist, climatologist, astronomer, cosmologist, astrophysics, oceanographer, etc). If you find a scientist and are not sure if he/she meets the requirements ask me. Done in Google Slides 1. Title Page. (Name of Scientist and Picture) 2. Birthplace and date of birth (include picture of city/map) 3. Childhood Background, Early childhood facts, friends, likes and dislikes (if you can find it)  If no information can be found on the childhood of the scientist (Slide 3), find something interesting that you want to add based on research. 4. Education (college)/Scientific Field of Study  Name of College and type of degree earned.  Name the field of study and explain the field (if the field of study is quantum chemistry what does that mean)  Place of employment (if you need to describe the lab or the University please do that, if retired list the last place of employment). 5. Discovery/Invention/Etc.,  Books they have published; what have they worked on, what are they working on. You need to explain their research and books by looking them up and reading about them you should be able to give a brief summary in your slides. 6. Contribution to Science  This is going to be important you need to show that you understand what this scientist has done and the field they are working in. This is where a lot of your research efforts will come from. Kind of the same thing as number 5, but you can go into more specific detail; again this is going to be where you are going to need to explicitly explain. 7. Awards/Recognitions that they have received, what the awards are for and how they are won, research the awards and explain it if you do not know. 8. Current age 9. Sources (at least 3 sources), they need to be cited, if you don’t know how to cite a source look it up. Notes for students who want to do well: Minimal words...I want no more than 15 sentences… (one or two per slide max) Presentation should be 2-3 minutes. This is your second presentation, so it should be better than your first If you do not present you will need to send me a typed, two page double space paper in addition to your presentation, 12 point font, times new roman, with no heading. Sources (3 total) need to be cited in MLA format, just like in English class. You will need to submit your paper to http://turnitin.com/ and should have less than a 20% match.
